Madden 21 Defense: How to Ice the Kicker on Field Goals or Extra Points
When it comes to Madden 21 defense strategies, it’s best to understand each and every tactic you can use to get the win. Sometimes you’ll be in a very close game, where it’s coming down to the final play with very little time remaining. Your opponent has the ball and can go ahead with a field goal. They’re within achievable range, but you want to throw them off guard. With that, here’s how to ice the kicker in Madden 21.
How to ice the kicker on Madden 21 defense
If you watch enough NFL games, you’ll see how coaches will ice the kicker. They’ll be in a close game situation with little time on the clock. The time may even run out on a winning extra point or field goal. Basically, the opponent is looking to get the win late and give no chance for the other team.
However, the other coach is looking to shake up the kicker ahead of that field goal or extra point. Icing the kicker refers to freezing the game with a timeout just prior to their kick. That basically disrupts the kicker so they’ll have to think more about the big play and possibly mess it up.
For the Madden 21 defense, there’s a specific button for how to ice the kicker. It’s the same as in a real-world football game, you call a timeout. So to ice the kicker, you press the button for a timeout.
- PlayStation 4 – Press the touchpad button in to call timeout/ice kicker.
- Xbox One – Press the small double squares button (show address bar).
Keep in mind, you can call the timeout just as the teams are lined up on the field, or just as the ball snaps. You’ll only get one chance, though, as you can only call one of your timeouts in this situation. After that, the opposing team gets their shot at kicking the FG or extra point.
This strategy isn’t going to always work in Madden 21, especially with the AI opponents. However, if you’re playing a user-controlled team in an Ultimate Team battle and they’re going for a 40-50 yard field goal to try to beat you, this could be the ace up your sleeve!
