A new pair of NCAA squads will make their way into EA’s upcoming Madden 21 Face of the Franchise college teams when the game arrives in August. On Tuesday, details for the upcoming game mode were revealed including screenshots, guest actors, storylines, and the available college teams. Among them will be the Michigan State Spartans and Nebraska Cornhuskers, who were not previously part of the game.
Who are the Madden 21 Face of the Franchise college teams?
In the upcoming Madden 21 Face of the Franchise mode, gamers will play through a new story in which they guide a high school football prospect all the way to the NFL. Once they’ve finished their high school career in the mode, they’ll have to decide which NCAA teams they want to sign with and play for.
In Face of the Franchise: Rise to Fame, there will be a total of 10 college teams in the game, as revealed in a screenshot from EA earlier today:
The Madden 21 Face of the Franchise college teams as shown by the logos are:
- Michigan State Spartans
- Oklahoma Sooners
- Nebraska Cornhuskers
- Clemson Tigers
- Oregon Ducks
- Miami (FL) Hurricanes
- LSU Tigers
- Texas Longhorns
- USC Trojans
- Florida Gators
Of those teams, eight of them are back as part of the Madden game’s franchise mode. The Michigan State Spartans and Nebraska Cornhuskers appear to have replaced two of the Madden 20 college teams. The Texas Tech Red Raiders and Florida State Seminoles appeared in last year’s game but are not part of Madden 21.
The Spartans and Huskers both hail from the Big Ten Conference. Last season, MSU finished 7-6 overall and 4-5 in the Big Ten. They’d go on to play Wake Forest in the Pinstripe Bowl and win the game, 27-21.
The Cornhuskers finished 5–7 overall and 3–6 in Big Ten. Unfortunately, the team did not qualify for a college bowl game last season. However, their popularity is certainly there under the guidance of head coach Scott Frost and the leadership of star quarterback Adrian Martinez.
Franchise mode to involve two college football seasons
The Madden 21 Face of the Franchise mode won’t just have team logos on hats to choose from for your player’s signing day. In the mode, your created player will suit up in the actual team’s jersey to play. From there, you’ll participate in two seasons of college football with that team.
It’s also mentioned as part of the mode’s story that your player, a quarterback, will be given an ultimatum by your head coach. It won’t be the actual college coach, but the fictional Coach Red O’Brien, played by actor Robert Patrick (Terminator 2, Perry Mason).
The fact that EA has managed to bring college football teams into the mix for two-straight Madden games has fans at least excited for the future as it could mean a new NCAA football game at some point. The last time there was a game made exclusively for college football was EA’s NCAA Football 14 released seven years ago.
EA has yet to release any official footage involving any of the college teams beyond screenshots shown today on social media and their website.
Meanwhile, the new Madden 21 game officially arrives for Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One on Aug. 28, with select pre-order versions bringing access three days earlier. See more details here.
