Madden 21 Defense Controls: How to Put a Defender in Man to Man Defense
In certain situations in the Madden football game, you’re going to need to assign a defender to a specific receiver. This could be helpful if you know you’ve got a great cornerback who should specifically defend a star receiver on a play. To do so, you’ll want to know the Madden 21 defense controls. In this guide, you’ll learn how to put a defender in man to man defense in Madden 21.
How to put a defender in man to man for Madden 21 defense controls
In previous guides, we looked at some of the pre-snap adjustments you can make on defense including shifting Madden linebackers. When it comes to putting a defender in man to man, you’ll also use pre-snap Madden 21 defense controls. Once you’ve got your defenders lined up on the field, you’ll want to call up the defensive adjustment menu on-screen and assign man-to-man coverage. Here’s how:
Press the Triangle button PS4 controller or Y button on Xbox One controller. This will call up your defensive menu. It should appear in the left or right lower corner of your screen, depending on if you’re in Exhibition or another mode.
By tapping Triangle (PS4) or Y button (Xbox One) again, you’ll call up the “Quick Adjustments” menu. This gives you the defenders you can assign for man-to-man coverage. As seen in the PS4 screenshot below, you press a button that corresponds to the defender you want to assign.
Once you’ve selected your defender, press up on the Right Stick to choose “Man Coverage.”
You’ll get a new menu called “Individual Coverage” where you can choose the specific offensive player you want to put man-to-man on. Press the corresponding button for the offensive player to select them for coverage.
Once you’ve gone through this, you’ll see your assigned defender go and stick right with the offensive player you assigned them to. Here’s an example from the Madden 21 game. Watch the Broncos defender rush to the left side to stay with the halfback, cutting off a possible pass near the outside.
