Each and every year, gamers, sports fans, and even NFL stars anticipate who will have the best ratings for the new Madden game. That’s the case once again this year and it’s become bigger than ever. While many of the ratings reveals of the past came online, ESPN will have coverage for the Madden 21 player ratings in the coming weeks.
ESPN to reveal Madden 21 player ratings including 99 Club members
So who will top the Madden 21 player ratings? To reveal that info, ESPN will host a special Madden Ratings Week with coverage on several of their programs. They’ll include SportsCenter, Get Up, First Take, and NFL Live starting on July 13.
Fans will learn of the 99 Club members for Madden 21 on ESPN’s Get Up throughout the week. It’s currently unknown how many players will be in the club, but Madden 20 had four members at the start of the season: Aaron Donald (Rams), DeAndre Hopkins (Texans), Khalil Mack (Bears), and Bobby Wagner (Seahawks).
By the end of the season, that 99 Club had changed. Panthers halfback Christian McCaffrey, Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas, and Patriots defensive star Stephon Gilmore joined the 99 Club based on their performances.
In addition to the 99 Club reveals on Get Up, a few other shows are involved in the reveals. First Take will feature debates about the player ratings. SportsCenter will have their top 10 lists for player ratings based on position.
A Madden 21 ratings special will air on ESPN on Friday, July 17 at 7 p.m. ET. Laura Rutledge, Louis Riddick, Field Yates, and Mina Kimes will host. Viewers can watch the special live streaming online through the ESPN channels and apps for various devices.
Rookie quarterbacks react to their ratings
Some of the Madden 21 player ratings were revealed already for the upcoming quarterbacks who will debut in the league. That includes No. 1 pick Joe Burrow (Bengals) and heralded QB Tua Tagovailoa (Dolphins).
Burrow grabbed the best rating of all rookie QBs with a 76, followed by Tagovailoa at 73. Jordan Love (71 OVR), Justin Herbert (70 OVR), and Jalen Hurts (68 OVR) rounded out the top five rookie QBs. See all of the rookie quarterback ratings here at EA’s website.
In a fun video, former 49ers quarterback Steve Young goes on live video chat with several of the rookie QBs. During the clip, he asks them to guess at specific attribute ratings such as Speed, Deep Throwing, or Playmaking. Many times the humble rookies are pleasantly surprised by the numbers.
While the rookies will officially debut in the NFL should the league hold a 2019-20 season, many of them have made debuts in the Madden 20 game. As the NFL Draft 2020 took place, Madden released Draft Class cards for most of the first and second-round picks with various ratings.
Right now, an ongoing promotion called Rookie Premiere allows gamers to build sets to exchange for a 99 OVR card for one of 10 different rookies. They include Joe Burrow, Cole Kmet, Cee Dee Lamb, Chase Young, and Jeff Okudah.
With the program, gamers not only acquire their card in Madden 20, but once they buy Madden 21, they’ll get a dynamic card of that rookie for Ultimate Team. As the player gets upgrade items through the season, that card will also upgrade to reflect the higher-rated items.
The Madden 21 game officially arrives on August 28 for Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, and Windows PCs.
