This past NFL season, the New Orleans Saints’ Michael Thomas set a record and achieved greatness with a perfect 99 rating in Madden 20. As of Friday, it was revealed that Thomas will start as a 99 Club member for the new Madden 21 WR ratings. Thomas was also announced as the fifth and final member of the exclusive membership, joining four other star players.
Michael Thomas achieves 99 OVR for Madden 21 WR ratings
Last season, we mentioned how three-time Pro Bowler and two-time NFL All-Pro member Michael Thomas achieved history. Thomas’ 149 receptions for the 2019 season were the most ever by any receiver, besting Marvin Harrison’s previous mark.
In addition, Thomas had a career-high 1,725 yards and 107.8 yards per game. All of that was good enough for EA to put him up to a 99 overall towards the end of last season, just prior to him winning AP Offensive Player of the Year.
Now he’s back, as ESPN’s Get Up! revealed Friday morning that Mr. Thomas is the fifth and final member of the 99 Club. As with other members of the 99 Club, a mural was created in honor of Thomas’ achievement.
A few other attributes were revealed for wide receivers. From that, we learned that Thomas has a 99 for Catching (first) and 98 for Spectacular Catch (third-best).
Check out more attribute ratings as they arrive at the EA database.
Other top receivers revealed for ratings
The debates have been underway with each reveal and that’s no different for the wide receivers. There are plenty out there who believe that the Atlanta Falcons’ Julio Jones and/or Arizona Cardinals’ DeAndre Hopkins deserve to be in the 99 Club. They are second and third in the ratings as shown below.
Super Bowl winner and fastest receiver in the game, Tyreek Hill of the Chiefs is fourth. The Green Bay Packers’ DaVante Adams rounds out the top five. Some fans are also debating why OBJ is so low in the ratings, or why Amari Cooper is so high up.
It’s worth mentioning that DeAndre Hopkins was one of the four members of the Madden 20 game’s 99 Club at launch. He’ll now catch passes from Kyler Murray in Arizona rather than Deshaun Watson in Texas. His 98 OVR gives him a goal to shoot for with the Cardinals, as he can return to the glory of the 99 OVR receivers.
Of course, several other players are very close to achieving that if they can show their stuff in the coming season.
That also wraps up the reveal for all of the Madden 21 ratings in terms of 99 Club. The five players who will begin the game with a perfect 99 rating are:
- QB Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs)
- HB Christian McCaffrey (Panthers)
- DT Aaron Donald (Rams)
- CB Stephon Gilmore (Patriots)
- WR Michael Thomas (Saints)
Let the debates rate on over who else deserves a 99. An ESPN special will air on Friday evening at 7 p.m. Eastern Time with more coverage to break down the Madden 21 ratings.
