Some key information with regards to the next edition of EA’s popular football simulation game may have been revealed. Weeks ago, we saw the Madden 21 cover athlete potentially leaked by the player himself. Now, within the past few days there my have been a Madden 21 release date leaked. Here’s the latest on the speculation as to when the new game could arrive for consoles.
Was the Madden 21 release date leaked early?
Last week, the EA Madden Twitter account sent out a teaser tweet to let fans know some details were on the way. That tweet simply gave the date of June 1, 2020. EA captioned it with, “So much more than a name…First look coming soon #Madden 21.”
That tweet pretty much put Madden fans on alert that there would probably be an early teaser trailer. Perhaps it’ll be a decent gameplay trailer ahead of the game’s release.
While the details of that have yet to be revealed, several websites are reporting that the Madden 21 release date may have been. According to Sports Odds Digest, the speculative date for Madden 21 to arrive to the masses could be Friday, August 28, 2020.
There also could be early access up to three days ahead of that or more. That’s based on previous EA sports games and Madden releases with pre-order bonus access.
Later release date for next-gen consoles
It’s worth noting that if that’s the Madden 21 release date, it’s much later in the month than Madden 20 arrived. That game came out on August 2, 2019, for the Sony PS4, Microsoft Xbox One, and PCs. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was the cover star for the game. It featured the new QB1 Face of the Franchise with select NCAA teams as one of its new features.
There are a few things to keep in mind with the possible later release date. One is the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has caused many things to get rescheduled or postponed to later dates. As of right now, the NFL appears on track to start their season on time. However, the various safety measures and lockdown orders around the country could have caused EA to move to a later date.
In addition, the game is going to be the first new Madden title for the next-generation consoles. However, those versions are slated to arrive for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at a later date. That said, we already saw that Xbox One gamers who buy Madden 21 have access to a free upgrade deal.
Other details: Cover athlete leaked, brief game footage
Weeks ago, the NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, leaked that he is going to appear on the Madden 21 cover. This happened as the Ravens QB was answering questions for an interview segment. The interviewer even asked Lamar to confirm what he said and he did.
The Ravens also alluded to that being the case. Madden acknowledged that leak on their Twitter account and there were betting odds that favored LJ8 to be on the game’s cover. However, no official cover has been revealed, as of yet. Only fan renditions have popped up online.
We also saw some very brief gameplay footage for Madden 21, but it was for the next-generation Xbox Series X console. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was featured in the Microsoft video and there were just six seconds of gameplay shown.
It was a clip where the Chiefs Super Bowl champion was shown rushing towards the endzone. Mahomes fought a defender and extended his arm past the end zone marker for a TD. That’s all we got, so far, but we’d love to see more.
Will we get some official answers on Monday, an extended gameplay video, or simply a teaser trailer for the new game? We’ll have to wait and see. For now, the Madden 21 release date is still speculation.
