When Madden 21 arrives in late August, expect more of the Superstar X-Factors to be part of the experience just like its predecessor. On Monday, we got our first look at what some of those Madden 21 Superstar X-Factors will be. EA unveiled the special abilities that top tier quarterbacks will have including Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Lamar Jackson, and Patrick Mahomes.
EA reveals five Madden 21 Superstar X-Factors for QBs
In Madden 20, gamers were introduced to the new Superstar abilities and X-Factors. Superstar X-Factors required certain achievements in-game to get in the zone, which unlocked a powered-up ability for the player. Opponents could deliver a knockout to deactivate the power by achieving certain things in-game.
Monday’s reveal brought us a look at what five of the Madden 21 Superstar X-Factors will be, with the quarterbacks up first. They’ll include Bazooka, made popular by last year’s cover star Patrick Mahomes as well as the Gambler X-Factor. Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers will have that one for the new game. Both appeared in Madden 20.
Madden 21 cover star Lamar Jackson will have a brand new Superstar X-Factor known as Truzz. According to their description, it will make it where LJ8 can’t fumble when in the zone. He’ll need five runs of one-yard or more to activate it. Opponents can knock him out of that ability with a tackle for a loss.
Many Madden fans believe this is simply a rename of Protective Custody. Jackson had “TRUZZ” tattooed on his chest earlier this year and was looking to trademark it as a brand, per TMZ’s report.
There’s also Blitz Radar which at least Russell Wilson will have. With this, he’ll be able to see any of the non-defensive linemen from the opposing team who are extra blitzers on a play. To activate it, he’ll need three scrambles of 10 yards or more. Opponents can deactivate it by recording two sacks on him.
Tom Brady and Drew Brees will both have Pro Reads. This will allow gamers to see the first open receiver highlighted while the QB is in the pocket. To unlock this Superstar X-Factor, a QB needs to make three completions of five yards or more in a row. Once it’s activated, an opponent can deactivate it by recording one sack on the QB.
Fans react to Lamar’s Superstar X-Factor
As one would expect, there was a range of opinions about Lamar’s new Truzz ability, with some Madden fans thinking it makes him more overpowered. Others believe it’s a good X-Factor, but mention how easy it might be to get.
“I’m not buying the game if this is his ability cause if I hit stick Lamar Jackson with Sean Taylor and he doesn’t fumble I’m breaking something,” one Twitter user replied on a MUTHEAD tweet.
“The xfactor itself isn’t op because Lamar doesn’t fumble so it makes sense but you only need 5 1 yard rushes to get it activated Face with tears of joy he does that half way in the first quarter,” another Twitter user replied.
“This is terrible for the game it’s to easy to activate players can literally run around like idiots the whole game,” another replied.
One Twitter user, citing his experience playing the Madden 21 beta, believes that it’s harder to activate than some think.
“I played the beta and it wasn’t OP at all. With the stamina on QB runs it was hard to activate,” they noted.
Of course, as more people will get to test Madden 21 Superstar X-Factors next month. That should uncover if it’s OP and makes Lamar a huge weapon in the game. He already is considered one in the NFL, but this could really set off Madden fans if he’s unable to fumble no matter how hard the hit.
During EA’s Deep Dive stream a few weeks ago, they mentioned stamina will play more of a factor in Madden 21. They believe this will prevent gamers from “spamming” the same plays repeatedly on offense.
We expect to see more Superstar X-Factors coming soon. See more details about the ones revealed so far here at EA’s website.
The new Madden 21 game arrives Aug. 28, 2020, for many people, but three days earlier for pre-order the MVP or Ultimate Edition.
