With each installment of EA’s Madden video game comes the popular career mode, which is recently referred to as Face of the Franchise. It’ll be back again in 2021, as Madden 22 Face of the Franchise will be called United We Rise and feature an all-new story, cast, and features. On Friday, July 9, EA unveiled their latest Gridiron Notes to give fans even more insight into what the updated mode will have in it.
Madden 22 Face of the Franchise brings new cast of characters
With each edition of Face of the Franchise, there’s a different story revolving around your character. That typically includes coaches, teammates, agents, scouts, and other personnel associated with your customized player’s journey in football.
For Madden 22 Face of the Franchise, EA revealed the following cast of characters:
- Alexandra Bishop – Defensive Coordinator
- Manny Kahue – Offensive Coordinator
- Nia Polanco – Podcast Host
- Ethan Rhodes – NFL Analyst
- Brandon Yung – Nike Trainer
- Jordan Wright – Agent/Close Friend
- Alonzo “Zo” Aiden – Brand Manager/Close Friend
- Carter Landry – Mentor/NFL Teammate
As of this report, they haven’t given any names of cast members who are portraying these particular characters. However, they showed off screenshots of each character (below).
What is the Class Progression System?
The Class Progression System will be a brand new feature that is part of Madden NFL 22. In the previous Face of the Franchise modes, gamers could choose to be a quarterback or a wide receiver, or a halfback. Those are all available in Madden 22 Face of the Franchise. So is linebacker, for the first time ever.
Per the Gridiron Notes, there are example classes given for each position as follows:
- Quarterback: The General, The Magician, Lightspeed
- Wide Receiver: Moonshot, Pathfinder, Lucky 7’s
- Halfback: The Shadow, Juggernaut, Double Agent
- Linebacker: Hawk, Franchise
Each Class will also have three Superstar Abilities and an X-Factor ability that gamers can unlock as their player progresses through the story. It’s described as “the more you play, the more you can customize.”
Enhanced Season Engine features Side Activities
The Season Engine is the backbone of the changing story in Madden 22 Face of the Franchise Mode. Each week, gamers get to choose from different Side Activities for their customized avatar to complete. By completing these activities, gamers will earn Cred, Morale, REP, XP, and other “buffs for the week ahead.”
The various activities will trigger based on position, team, and weekly performance, among other aspects. These will be uncommon, common, and “rare” opportunities to take advantage of.
Per EA’s Gridiron Notes there are four categories leading to different buffs. They are Mental Focus, Physical Recovery, Team Bonding, and My Brand. As EA also mentions, choosing which activities you want to pursue comes down to how you want to play.
Here are some examples:
Fan Meet & Greet (Uncommon)
+100 Cred and +20 Morale for the entire team for 1 week
Team Film Study (Common)
+100 REP and +100 XP for the entire team
Weight Training with O-Line (Rare)
+3 Strength for entire O-Line permanently
One example they give for choices is to let a rare opportunity pass by in order to get the “+20 Morale” for your team for that week’s tough game. It’s all up to your style of play and what you feel will help most in your progression.
In addition to the above details, EA also mentions other interesting aspects coming to the mode, including the all-new Career Hub, over 70 podcasts, and integration of Dynamic Gameday into the mode on next-gen consoles!
