Madden 22 Player Ratings: Gronk on the Rise, Zach Wilson Falls After NFL Week 2

It’s still early in the 2021 NFL season, but several teams have shown themselves as contenders, with others looking like the basement dwellers that many people expected. One end of the spectrum features the 2-0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team seeming destined for another Super Bowl. At the opposite end is a team like the New York Jets, who despite getting another new quarterback, are still floundering. With that, the Madden 22 player ratings have been updated to reflect player performances.

Gronk, Carr & Wagner climb in Madden 22 player ratings

Each week during the NFL season, ratings adjustors can move players up or down based on how they’ve performed in the recent games. For Week 2, Tampa Bay picked up their second win of the season, a rout of the Atlanta Falcons. The timeless Tom Brady was sensational and so was his favorite tight end, Rob Gronkowski.

In a video from The Checkdown, Chad Ochocinco compared the magic between Brady and Gronk as similar to that of J-Lo and Ben Affleck. Gronk finished the game with four catches for 39 yards and two touchdowns. Based on that, he moved up two points in the Madden 22 player ratings. His Catching improved from 90 to 93, while Awareness jumped from 85 to 91. Gronk now sits at an 89 overall rating.

Also moving up in the ratings is the Las Vegas Raiders’ QB, Derek Carr. He helped Vegas improve to 2-0 with a 26-17 win over the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Carr threw for 382 yards with two passing TDs. He also moved up, albeit a point in the player ratings, to become an 87 OVR.

In addition, a former 99 Club member is inching his way back towards that status. The Seattle Seahawks’ Bobby Wagner improved to a 93 overall after recording 20 tackles in his team’s loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Zach Wilson drops after poor Week 2 performance

To say the Jets haven’t improved much since last season is an understatement. The team is off to an 0-2 start behind rookie quarterback Zach Wilson. While hopes may have been high for Sam Darnold’s replacement, he tossed four interceptions in the team’s Week 2 loss to New England.

Things won’t get much better in Week 3, as they’ll take on the 2-0 Denver Broncos. Ahead of that, Wilson has dropped two points to a 73 OVR in the Madden 22 player ratings. That NFL Rookie of the Year Award looks like a tough get now, as does a playoff appearance for the Jets.

Also slumping is Ezekiel Elliott. The two-time NFL rushing yards leader dropped to an 87 OVR after two rough games to start this season. He racked up 71 yards on 16 carries and his first touchdown of the season in the team’s win over the Chargers. However, Tony Pollard also scored one and had 109 yards on 13 carries with an 8.4 yards-per-carry average.
