The NFL’s upcoming rookie class will once again put the spotlight on talented quarterbacks as the first three picks of this year’s draft featured signal-callers. Four of the first 15 picks were QBs, and that shows that teams are trying to find the next player who could perform similarly to Madden 20 cover star Patrick Mahomes.
While none of the players selected may be the next Mahomes per se, they could still help bring a struggling team back to the playoffs. In a recent video, four of the upcoming QBs gave their Madden 22 rookie ratings predictions.
Justin Fields, Trey Lance give Madden 22 rookie ratings predictions
In the 2021 draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars made Clemson Tigers QB Trevor Lawrence the No. 1 overall pick as expected. He’ll suit up for the Jags in the coming season, and hopefully if he gets the playing time, can bring them back to a level of respectability.
Meanwhile, the No. 2 pick went to the New York Jets, a team that once thought Sam Darnold was their savior at the QB spot. However, they opted to draft BYU quarterback Zach Wilson to try to save the franchise.
Wilson was one of the four rookie quarterbacks to appear in the new Madden 22 rookie ratings predictions video. In the clip below, he seems to have high hopes for his rating in the yet-to-be-revealed football video game. Wilson says his rating should be a 90.
“It’s like OK but not great because I haven’t done anything yet,” Wilson says in the video clip.
Perhaps more realistic is Justin Fields, who fans believe may be someone who plays the Madden video game. The No. 13 pick by the Chicago Bears suggests his rookie rating will be a 78 to 81.
There are certainly high hopes for Fields at Soldier Field, although the Bears may have other options at QB to ease Fields into the position. He’ll be taking over now that the Mitch Trubisky experiment has officially ended.
Also featured in the video above is No. 3 pick Trey Lance for the San Francisco 49ers and the New England Patriots’ No. 15 pick Mac Jones from Alabama. Both teams may be hoping these players will carry them into the future, although the 49ers still have Jimmy Garopollo and the Pats have Cam Newton at QB.
Jones has been practicing his Madden game, as he was featured in a clip earlier this month using the Patriots against the Buccaneers on the current video game.
Ahead of Madden 21’s release, No. 1 pick Joe Burrow was the top rookie with a 76 overall, followed by Tua Tagovailoa at 73, Jordan Love at 71, and Justin Herbert at 70 OVR.
Rookies appear in current game, new game still TBA
While the video above includes four rookie quarterbacks giving their ratings, that’s far from all of the major players coming to the Madden 22 title. Of course, Trevor Lawrence will highlight the rookie class. There are also plenty of other rookie players coming to the NFL and the new EA Sports title.
The Madden 21 game introduced many rookie players into the game with their NFL Draft promotion, giving fans a way to add rookies to theme teams or to test out young stars of the future. Lawrence’s 99 OVR card features 99 Short Accuracy, 99 Play Action, 97 Medium Accuracy, 97 Throw Power, and 96 Throw Under Pressure. His card’s currently selling for about 300,000 Madden Coins or more, depending on the platform.
The No. 1 pick holds the best overall rating, followed by a selection of players at 98 OVR. They include Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts, and Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II. Zach Wilson and Trey Lance are also 98s, while Justin Fields and Mac Jones have 97 OVRs. See the full listing of available cards here.
As of right now, there is no official release date for the new game. See our Madden 22 cover star predictions which also includes speculation for the game’s release.
