As Madden Ratings Reveal Week continues, gamers are getting a preview of who the best players will be in EA’s upcoming football simulation game. Leading the way for those who excel at the rushing game was former 99 Club member, Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers. Derrick Henry and Nick Chubb are not far behind.
McCaffrey leads Top 10 Madden 22 running back ratings
The Tennessee Titans have one of the most powerful and dominant running backs in the league. Unfortunately, that has yet to translate to the coveted 99 overall rating in EA’s Madden football game. Wednesday brought a first look at the top 10 running backs in the game, with Henry’s 96 OVR probably disappointing many fans.
Meanwhile, Christian McCaffrey is no longer a 99 Club member himself. He was in the club a season ago but enters Madden 22 running back ratings with a 97 OVR.
His 2020 season was unfortunately marred by a high ankle sprain and shoulder injury. The latter kept him out for the remainder of the season, so he only played a total of three games. That explains the drop from the club, but a full season could see him return to form.
Rounding out the top five are the Browns RB Nick Chubb (96 OVR), Vikings’ Dalvin Cook (95), and Saints star Alvin Kamara (95). After that, all running backs are rated at 91 OVR or lower.
Based on the above list, it seems the top three running backs in the Madden ratings can reach the 99 Club with standout performances in the first half of the season. Time will tell, though.
Video game ratings have become a big deal for players. Dalvin Cook reacted to his Madden 22 rating in a clip shared by NFL on ESPN:
Top 10 fastest in Madden 22 running back ratings
Raheem Mostert didn’t make it into the top 10 for Madden 22 running back ratings. However, his 97 rating for the Speed attribute makes him the fastest among his peers. His former teammate, Matt Breida, is right behind him at No. 2 on the list. Breida, now with the Miami Dolphins, has a 94 Speed rating.
So does Kene Nwangwu of the Minnesota Vikings, a 2021 NFL Draft pick for the team, which adds to their impressive ground game. The Vikes already have a guy named Dalvin Cook who is amongst the top four backs in th game, per Madden’s ratings.
Also note below, that McCaffrey and Chubb are also in the top 10, tied with 92 Speed ratings.
Vikings RB Cook takes top spot for Change of Direction
The Change of Direction attribute was added into Madden within the past few years and based on the upcoming game’s ratings, Dalvin Cook will lead the way. The Minnesota Vikings running back has a 95 rating there. He’s followed by the Carolina Panthers’ Christian McCaffrey and New York Giants’ Saquon Barkley, each of whom got 94 OVRs.
Henry is not part of this top 10 list, as he rates 79 OVR in the category. Even so, he’s been known to power his way to major gains. The Titans star has certainly shown an explosive and dominant ground game over the past several seasons. A 99 could still be in the picture this season.
What’s next for Madden 22 player ratings?
On Thursday, Ed Reed will be part of Madden Ratings Reveal Week as the top safeties in the game are revealed. Cornerbacks could also get their reveal. That could mean another 99 Club member arrives, such as the Patriots’ Stephon Gilmore.
Friday will close out the ratings week coverage on ESPN as the quarterback ratings arrive. Most likely, co-cover star Patrick Mahomes will get another spot in the 99 Club. If so, he’ll join teammate Travis Kelce in the 99 Club. Kelce led all tight ends in a top 10 list also revealed on Wednesday.
