Two more players have officially joined the 2021 Pro Bowl thanks to the Madden NFL 21 Video Game Numbers Challenge. Kansas City Chiefs rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Philadelphia Eagles’ RB Miles Sanders officially get the final roster spots. The announcement also arrives just days ahead of the first-ever ESPN Madden NFL Wild Card Duos, and of course, the Super Wildcard Weekend for the playoffs.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Miles Sanders join Pro Bowl thanks to video game TDs
On Monday, January 4, EA’s Madden social media brought the big news that gamers have officially determined which players get the final two Pro Bowl roster spots. The spots were decided by the number of touchdowns that gamers scored with players in-game, and it appears two players went off, virtually.
The Kansas City Chiefs already have NFL and Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes, a member of the Madden 99 Club. In their offseason, they added a rookie running back to help with the ground game. Clyde Edwards-Helaire showed his skills, racking up over 800 yards rushing and four touchdowns in his first pro season. He was part of another great Chiefs season, with the team claiming the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage for the AFC Playoffs.
Edwards-Helaire finished No. 19 in terms of all running backs for total yards this season. Four spots above him is Miles Sanders of the Philadelphia Eagles. While his squad didn’t fare as well, Sanders compiled 867 yards and six touchdowns. He was also seventh in the league with his 72.3 yards per game this season, per ESPN stats.
Ahead of the holidays, the Madden NFL 21 Video Game Numbers Challenge launched. It allowed gamers to participate in selecting the final AFC and NFC Pro Bowl roster members through gameplay. All that was required was to score touchdowns with players in specific game modes, and based on the final numbers, they scored quite a bit.
Gamers recorded a total of over 9,000 touchdowns between Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Miles Sanders. They each finished about 1,000 touchdowns over the second-place finisher in their respective conference too. While there won’t be an official 2021 NFL Pro Bowl game held this year, both players now get the honor added to their career resumes.
ESPN Madden NFL 21 Wild Card Duos to premiere on Thursday
Ahead of the playoffs, Madden NFL 21 will be part of a special event featuring gamers and NFL stars. The ESPN Madden NFL 21 Wild Card Duos will take place on Thursday, January 7.
Among the NFL players involved will be the Detroit Lions’ D’Andre Swift, Carolina Panthers’ Robby Anderson, and Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Mixon. They’ll be teaming up with experienced gamers to participate in the new Madden NFL 21 mode, The Yard.
The one-hour event premieres at 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday night, with coverage on ESPN2. It’ll also be available for viewing through ESPN, NFL, and Madden digital channels, giving fans plenty of ways to watch.
That will lead fans into this coming weekend when six NFL Playoffs Wild Card games will take place on the field. However, Clyde-Edwards Helaire and his Chiefs will await their opponents for the AFC Playoffs, as will Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, and the NFC’s top-seeded Green Bay Packers.
