Madden NFL 22 to Feature Updated Equipment, Select Player Likenesses, Speed Rating Improvement

The Madden NFL 22 game will feature a variety of upgrades and improvements, right down to the mouthguard and sock styles that players wear. On Friday, EA revealed a variety of their updates which will help make the game even more realistic. They’ll include equipment, player likeness scans, and better speed rating adjustment.

What’s the new equipment in Madden NFL 22?

Based on recent notes from EA’s Madden game, the football sim title will incorporate more gear than ever for players and coaches. That includes an extension upon their mouthpieces first offered in Madden 21’s title update. With Madden NFL 22, they’ll have primary and secondary team colors for mouthguards in both current and last-gen consoles.

Sock height customization also arrives as part of the Madden NFL 22 gear. Gamers will be able to customize low or high socks for players as they wish, and striped socks are also supported.

The game will feature new facemasks in the library of available options too. They include Speedflex 2 Bar WR, Jewel, Robot, and Halfcage options. In addition, the Zenith Prowl, Revospeed Robot Cage, and Vicis Kicker will be featured.

EA’s new Madden also has a variety of new cleats and gloves, including Nike Vapor Jet 6 gloves, Adidas Freak Gloves, Adidas Nasty Cleats, and more.

They’ve also revealed an updated selection of gear for the game’s coaches. A new selection of items from Nike and New Era will appear for the game’s coaching stars as they pace the sidelines.

Player Likenesses revealed ahead of game’s release

In their Gridiron Notes, EA revealed they will be getting updated face scans for NFL players after the game has been released. This is due to not having opportunities to meet with all players in person as necessary.

However, they revealed a number of players including top rookies that have face scans done ahead of the release date. Among the players with face scans are top-rated Madden 22 rookies Kyle Pitts and Trevor Lawrence.

EA says they were limited in terms of getting face-to-face time to use their scanning technology with many players due to the pandemic restrictions. However, they said they plan to add more face scans for realistic player likenesses as the season goes forth.

In addition, they noted there are “over 100 new generic heads” available for customizing create-a-player stars.

Speed rating is improved in Madden NFL 22

Last but not least, EA indicated in their Gridiron Notes that the Speed attribute rating will be improved through a combination of aspects.

They indicated an average of a player’s top five recorded speeds was used with Next Gen Stats during Madden NFL 21 for Speed. EA said they’ll make this more accurate in Madden NFL 22, using “real-life data” and also “player performance on a weekly and yearly basis.”

They mention the importance of a players’ recorded 40-yard-dash times and game film as well. EA said they’ll incorporate Next Gen Stats data with actual game footage to really make sure Acceleration and Speed are improved.

The translation should be a more realistic player performance on the gridiron, although it seems this is still in process to really make it as accurate as possible.
