After you conquer your first Scorchbeast in the events of Belly of the Beast, your next main quest is far easier. The Fallout 76 Uncle Sam main quest sees you returning to Charleston once again. This time, you’ll be looking for information at the Charleston Herald building.
How to Complete the Fallout 76 Uncle Sam Main Quest
The Fallout 76 Uncle Sam main quest should begin automatically when you complete Belly of the Beast. Uncle Sam is the first very short main quest after a string of longer, multi-step ones. As a result, it offers very little by way of rewards, but you’ll soon by off on the next step; Bunker Buster, where you’ll meet the Enclave faction for the first time! The first objective in Uncle Sam is to search the Charleston Herald building for information on Sam Blackwell. You should already know the location of Charleston, as you will have already visited it a few times during the main quest. Indeed, you may already have the Herald building as a fast-travel location too.
When you arrive at the Charleston Herald, make your way inside and follow the objective marker. This will lead you upstairs to a box of old paperwork. Tucked in among the documents is a note entitled “Sam Blackwell Interview Notes,” which will complete the first objective. Now you need to use the information you recovered to find Sam Blackwell’s bunker.
This location doesn’t actually have a map marker. However, it’s hidden within the Abandoned Waste Dump, a site in the southern region of the Mire. The dump is northeast of Harpers Ferry, across the river. Beware; the dump is extremely dangerous as it’s inhabited by Deathclaws. The minimum enemy level is 30. Explore the site and search for a cave entrance, within which is an elevator which leads to Sam Blackwell’s bunker. However, when you try to shut off the laser grid via the nearby control panel, you’ll be denied. This concludes the Uncle Sam quest, and you’ll earn a random aid item or ammo as a reward. The next quest, Bunker Buster, should start automatically.
