“There are always repercussions.”
Those were the haunting words of The Curator, a new character revealed in the Man of Medan Ghost Ship trailer. In Supermassive Games’ Man of Medan, you play as a group of four young individuals, whose day takes a turn for the worst when they find themselves trapped on board a ghost ship. There they’ll encounter horrors unlike they’ve ever witnessed before, and it’ll all be overseen by the mysterious Curator.
According to Bandai Namco, The Curator will be an “omniscient observer of the protagonists’ progress and choices” throughout the game. Unlike the therapist in Until Dawn, the Curator has been described as “timeless”. This means that he’s been around for a very long time, recording stories of life and death. Yet this time he’s been granted an opportunity like no other: the chance to talk to the player.
Of course, there are rules to how the game is played. The Curator knows he isn’t meant to interfere with what happens, yet he can’t help himself. Nonetheless, if you think you’re going to get his help all the time – think again. If you miss something while exploring he’ll only ‘hint’ at it. So, don’t get too comfortable in trusting him completely.
Man of Medan: Who is The Curator?
You may find yourself saying ‘hey, I recognize that guy’ while watching the trailer. That’s because, like Until Dawn, real-life actors have been used to create the characters visually. The Curator is played by Pip Torrens, who you may recognize from his roles in The Crown and Star Wars: Force Awakens.
He isn’t the only character you’ll recognize. If you’re a fan of X-Men, you’ll have noticed that Shawn Ashmore, the actor behind Ice-Man, also plays a prominent role.
The Man of Medan, developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco, will be releasing sometime in 2019.
