Over the weekend, Eric Holmes, the Design Director of the Battlefield 5 War Stories campaign, said that fans could expect news, gameplay, and a trailer for the single-player story mode coming this week. Although the latter two have yet to emerge, we already have some major news; English actor Mark Strong will feature as the in-game narrator throughout the War Stories campaign.
Mark Strong Joins Battlefield 5 War Stories as the In-Game Narrator
The news was recently announced in an exclusive by The Hollywood Reporter. According to the report, Mark Strong will be the in-game narrator and will voice both Battlefield 5’s prologue and epilogue. Moreover, his narration will be interwoven throughout the War Stories campaign; linking together the four episodic stories. As DICE has previously said, three of these will feature in the game at launch. The final episode, The Last Tiger, which will be the first to be told from a German perspective, will come to the game post-launch.
Mark Strong is certainly a high-profile actor to cast as the in-game narrator. He is well-known for his roles in films like Sherlock Holmes, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and the Kingsman franchise, among others. Battlefield 5 won’t be his first video game role though. He has previously voiced characters in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, Total War: Rome II, and Eisenhorn: Xenos. He will also feature in the cast of the upcoming game Star Citizen: Squadron 42. Indeed, he made a brief appearance in that title’s recent trailer.
Given how important the in-game narration is likely to be in establishing the themes of the Battlefield 5 War Stories campaign; it seems likely that fans will be able to hear his voice in the upcoming trailer. According to Eric Holmes, fans can expect to see that War Stories trailer sometime later this week. The game itself will be launching in one month’s time, in mid-November.
