Metal Gear Survive is Getting a Halloween Event Featuring Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head

Konami’s Metal Gear Survive is still chugging along with its themed in-game events, and the latest is a real doozy. We may not be getting a new Silent Hill game anytime soon, but Konami is offering the next best thing. Metal Gear Survive’s upcoming Halloween event will be a bizarre mashup of Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and Castlevania.

The new Halloween event for Metal Gear Survive includes Silent Hill and Castlevania references.

Metal Gear Survive Halloween Event

Now, before any Metal Gear Survive players out there get excited, the Silent Hill and Castlevania tie-ins are very threadbare. The event, which runs from October 23 to November 6, involves earning Battle Points by performing specific single-player actions. These Battle Points can then be spent on a series of specially curated items including recipes and cassette tapes. For the Halloween event, Konami will add an exclusive helmet item modeled after Pyramid Head’s…head. Several cassette tapes featuring music tracks from Castlevania and Silent Hill will also be available.

That’s about the extent of what the Halloween event entails. There are no special enemies to fight or new missions to undertake. Players just keep doing what they’re already doing and can earn some Silent Hill/Castlevania items for their trouble. It’s not exactly what fans wanted, but at least Konami remembers that Castlevania and Silent Hill exist.

Metal Gear Survive is an interesting experiment for Konami. After Konami messily parted ways with Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima, it went ahead and developed Survive without him. Unlike previous Metal Gear games, Survive focuses more on freeform survival-based gameplay with both solo and multiplayer game modes. Survive was a modest success in terms of sales, but lately its online player population has dwindled. There’s still enough players around, though, to justify ongoing events like the Halloween Silent Hill/Castlevania shindig.

Meanwhile, Kojima is currently working on a bizarre new project of his own: Death Stranding. The upcoming game features an eclectic cast of talent, including esteemed horror director Guillermo Del Toro.
