The Bastard Gun is a Metro series staple, and as such, it’s no surprise that it’s returning for the latest instalment. However, thanks to the new weapon customisation mechanics, the Metro Exodus bastard gun has a whole suite of new options. Indeed, players will be able to re-purpose the classic firearm into a wide variety of new roles. The weapon was recently detailed in a gameplay trailer looking at two weapons from the Handgun category; the revolver and the bastard gun.
“Appropriately named the ‘Bastard Gun’ due to its reputation for jamming and overheating,” explains 4A Games; “the Ублюдок is nevertheless a vital, formidable, Metro-made machine gun”; The weapon deals very low damage but has an exceptionally high rate of fire and good stability. However, thanks to the new customisation options, you can make it a much more formidable option.
Metro Exodus Bastard Gun Configurations #1: The VSV
Featuring a smaller magazine for faster reloads, a stock, a Suppressor, and an NV (night vision) Scope, the VSV is the first potential configuration shown in the recent trailer. This lightweight rifle suits close-to-medium-range stealth engagements very well. Although its damage is still low, the VSV is one of the most stable weapons available, and highly accurate; “Silenced and easy to handle,” says 4A Games; “it’s an exceptionally light stealth assault weapon that allows a tactical response if the alarm is raised.”
Metro Exodus Bastard Gun Configurations #2: The Heavy SMG
At the other end of the spectrum is the Heavy SMG, the second example Bastard Gun configuration. This weapon features a much larger box magazine, a Heavy Barrel, and a Closed Reflex Sight. It boasts almost double the damage of a standard bastard gun, with much higher ammo capacity and high accuracy. The changes do cause a decrease in stability, but it remains more stable than other, heavier rifle options. 4A Games describes it as; “a Ranger’s best friend when you need to quickly clear a room.”
