In a recent gameplay trailer released by 4A Games, players were given a more detailed look at some of Metro Exodus‘ upcoming weapons. More specifically, the video showcases some of the rifles which will be available in the game; the Kalash, the Bulldog, and the Valve. Thanks to the new weapon customisation system, each of the Metro Exodus weapons serves as a foundation for a wealth of optional components and alternate setups.
The first weapon of the Rifle class, the Kalash looks set to be Metro Exodus’ standard-issue assault rifle. The real-world firearm is reliable and tough; a solid standard option for players to use or to build upon. The weapon has respectable range and a very high rate of fire, with low individual damage and a mid-size magazine. However, players can transform the Kalash into a wide variety of alternate forms with the rifle’s customisation options. Two of these potential configurations were shown off in the recent gameplay trailer:
Kalash Configurations #1: The VEPR Hunting Rifle
Transforming the mid-range automatic rifle into a highly accurate and high-damage weapon; the VEPD Hunting Rifle configuration is very different from what the Kalash starts as. “In VEPR Hunting Rifle configuration,” explains the trailer; “the Kalash is the perfect choice for medium-range engagements”; The VEPR features the addition of a 4x Scope, as well as a Long Barrel & Compensator; improving both damage and accuracy at mid-range.
Kalash Configurations #2: The RPK
“When you need to go loud and control a crowd of attacking enemies,” continues the trailer; “a heavy stock, drum magazine, reflex sight, and red laser are the way to go.” This alternate setup turns the Kalash into its RPK configuration. This weapon features significantly lower recoil and far greater magazine capacity (75 rounds!). As a result, the RPK is perfect for shorter range area control. In this form, the assault rifle base of the Kalash becomes something more akin to a light machine gun.
