As the MLB The Show 19 release date draws near, fans everywhere can’t wait to check out the new features for the popular PlayStation game. Another thing weighing on many fans’ minds is which players may be added to the legends portion of the roster.
The legends have grown in popularity over the years, and now with over 100 players available, the burning question is which old-timers will show up in the 19 version?
Better than 2018?
It has been four years now since the creators of MLB The Show have introduced the heroes of the past to the game. Last season 30 new legends were introduced putting the legendary options at over 100 players.
2018 saw greats such as Babe Ruth, Bob Gibson, Mike Piazza, Vida Blue, Bob Feller, and Dale Murphy added to the MLB The Show legends list. All of those players are more than worthy of the honor. However, some gamers have questioned many additions not just to the 2018 roster, but in the years previous as well.
The debate rages on between gamers on which players are really deserving of the honor. After all, when you use a term like “legends,” you just can’t throw in a player who had a nice two-year run and was never heard from again – or can you? Either way, it is just one of the features of the game that makes it that much more interesting!
Who will the “powers that be” choose to join the legendary list that already includes the likes of Al Kaline, Ted Williams and Jackie Robinson? That answer will be known on March 26. For now, all we can do is speculate.
Here are five players that are more than deserving of the honor.
2019 predictions
Willie Mays – Seriously, the “Say Hey Kid” has to be on the list. He posted numbers from 1961 through 1965 that would have made him sign the first $400 million dollar deal in sports history. Who can forget his catch in the 1954 World Series?
Pete Rose – Off the field, Rose was full of controversy. On the field, no one hit the ball better. Rose is Major League Baseball’s all-time hit leader, period. He needs to become a MLB The Show Legend.
Bo Jackson – Bo knows baseball. If it wasn’t for an injury, this kid was a possible future Hall of Famer. 1987, ‘88 and ’89 saw Jackson take over baseball on and off the field. Each year his stats increased in home runs, RBI and batting average. Jackson ruled Techmo Bowl in the late 1980’s and he would be a great addition to MLB The Show’s legend roster.
Cy Young – The Cy Young Award is the most popular in all of the sports. Well then, shouldn’t Young be a legend? 511 wins, 749 complete games. That is insanely good! His real-life stats are very video game-like.
Mickey Mantle – Another must. You couldn’t talk about baseball in the 1950’s and 1960’s without mentioning Mantle. In ’56 and ’57, mantle won back to back MVP Awards with numbers that would make Bryce Harper blush. In ’56, Mantle hit 52 home runs, drove in 130 and hit .353.
Mantle followed that up in 1956 by swatting 34 homers, driving in 94 runs and a final batting average of .365. He also drew a league-leading 146 walks that year.
