With the official trailer for MLB The Show 19 hitting the public earlier this week, gamers are ready to get the action going. With just over one month until The Show hits stores nationwide, many fans are making their MLB The Show predictions for 2019.
Sports fanatics everywhere love to make bold predictions. After all, that is half of the fun. Since 2019 cover athlete Bryce Harper has been the biggest story this offseason, why not predict the top 10 right fielders for 2019?
Is Harper really deserving of the No. 1 spot? While we still don’t know where Harper will play this summer, we do know that he will be in demand on the field – and inside MLB The Show!
Mookie takes charge
In 2018, Bryce Harper was the top rated right fielder with a score of 88. Harper had a great 2018 season, however, he was nudged out for the top spot in 2019 by Boston’s Mookie Betts.
Betts, who was rated second with an 87 last season, leapfrogs Harper for the top spot after his incredible 2018 campaign. The AL-MVP finished the season with 32 home runs and 80 RBI and a batting average of .346, which is nearly 100 points higher than Harper’s .249.
Betts also had 180 hits compared to Harper’s 137 and a WAR that was nearly ten times higher as well.
The only other player who could have ousted Betts at No. 1 would have been his teammate JD Martinez. For this way-too-early prediction, Martinez is not considered a right fielder because he is Boston’s designated hitter more than 50-percent of the time.
The other nine
While Betts deserves to be the No. 1 right fielder in 2019 on MLB The Show, the rest of the cast looks nothing like the 2018 selections. Atlanta’s Nick Markakis and Detroit’s Nick Castellanos are well deserving of breaking the top 10.
Castellanos was the Tigers best hitter in 2018. Nick belted 23 home runs, drove in 89 RBI and finished the season with a .298 average. With not much protection around him in the lineup, those numbers are more impressive than they appear.
Here is a look at how I would rank the top 10 right fielders on MLB The Show heading into 2019. As always, for the latest news, information and rumors be sure to check out our MLB The Show home page.
