The latest MLB The Show release has many gamers thinking about spring. Yesterday the popular PlayStation game was officially released to the public and gamers are already giving it rave reviews. If you are new to MLB The Show, it may take a bit to catch on to all the ins and outs of the game.
Getting a good lead
Just like any video game, you have to learn the tips and tricks. While hitting and catching are at the forefront of playing the game of baseball, so is knowing how to run the bases.
Getting a good leadoff and knowing how to slide into a base are key.
Sliding is a huge part of the game. When a player is attempting to steal a base or trying to score a game-winning run, odds are he is going to slide. On MLB The Show, it is just the same.
Before you can steal a base, you want to get a good size lead-off. Taking that extra step can be the difference between making it in safely or getting thrown out. Here are some quick tips on how to get a good leadoff.
- To increase your lead off of any base, you hit the triangle on the right side of your controller.
- To decrease your lead, press on the circle, which is slightly below and to the right of the triangle.
The directions above are what you can do while the pitcher still has the ball or is starting his wind up. You can also steal after the pitch is thrown and here is how.
- To attempt a post-pitch steal, you would press the triangle as soon as the pitch is released.
- If you want to advance all the runners on base, press the “X” key.
- To return to your previous base, simply press the circle key.
I provided a picture key below to make it a bit easier for new gamers to see. It may sound a bit complicated, that is the difference between pre and post pitch, but it becomes very simple the more you play.
MLB The Show 19 Sliding Guide
Stealing in baseball is a good thing. In fact, the more bases you can steal, the better odds you have of producing and scoring runs. But you need to be able to slide correctly to steal a base.
To slide into a base, you have four options. Feet first, head first, hook to the left or hooking to the right.
All of these moves are controlled by the right stick on your controller. For example, to slide in feet first, push the right stick down when you are ready to begin your slide. If you want to slide headfirst, push the right stick forward, or up.
If you want to hook slide, simply push the right stick to the left or right depending on the direction you want to go. Hopefully, this guide helps you with learning how to leadoff, and slide into bases like a pro! To stay up with all the latest news, rumors and information, please refer to our MLB The Show home page!
