On Thursday afternoon, San Diego Studios presented the latest Twitch stream to talk about MLB The Show 20 roster update. Ramon and Ruari appeared on the video talking about which players got upgraded to Diamond and Gold level, based on their recent play in MLB. There were a total of three new Diamonds including Whit Merrifield and Aaron Nola, as well as six new Gold players.
MLB The Show 20 roster update: Three new Diamond players
Upon firing up The Show, a new live roster will download and go into effect. Player ratings within the game have updated to reflect who’s doing well, or not so well.
To reveal the new MLB The Show 20 roster update, Ramon and Ruairi presented a quick look at which players earned their way into the Diamond level. Players are able to move up thanks to how they’ve performed in real life, giving three players good enough stats to reach that 85 OVR level.
The only hitter of the three Diamonds was Whit Merrifield of the Kansas City Royals. The second baseman is batting over .300, with five home runs and 17 RBI so far this season. While KC isn’t winning their division at the moment, one can’t fault Merrifield, as he’s played great.
Two pitchers joined Merrifield in terms of becoming Diamonds. They are starting pitchers Aaron Nola of the Phillies and Zack Greinke of the Houston Astros. According to Ruairi, Greinke really solidified his case for Diamond with this past Tuesday’s performance against the Colorado Rockies. He pitched eight shutout innings and struck out seven in a 2-1 Astros’ win.
Gamers will now see the above players’ respective cards bumped up to the Diamond level for their teams. So if you hadn’t purchased them for the Team Affinity collections, they may have become a bit pricier now in terms of The Show Stubs.
Six new Gold players, who to watch for
In addition to three Diamond players, there are also six new Gold players in the MLB The Show 20 roster update. Only one pitcher is on the list, as Braves starter Max Fried is now an 80 overall Gold. He’s joined by five batters who have been playing well lately.
They include: Mets 2B Robinson Cano 81 OVR, Rays 2B Brandon Lowe, Red Sox RF Alex Verdugo 81 OVR, Orioles SS Jose Iglesias 80 OVR, Yankees 1B Luke Voit 80 OVR.
Of those players, Ruairi mentioned Lowe’s been hitting very well. From July 18 through August 19, he hit 15-for-35 with six home runs. That put him amongst the players on Ruairi’s watch list for another possible upgrade. Lowe may become a Diamond in the future. In addition to Lowe, Ruairi believes the Nationals’ Trea Turner is also on Diamond watch.
Other players to keep an eye on for upgrades in The Show include pitchers Yu Darvish, Chad Green, and Drew Pomeranz. In addition, the Blue Jays’ outfielder Randal Grichuk is playing well enough to warrant future consideration for an upgrade.
