In baseball, the slide is an art form that many players use to help ensure their safety, get their team in scoring position, or even win a game. In MLB The Show 20, the ability to slide into the bag gives more ways to impact the game. The player can slide in different ways to avoid being tagged out, which can help to get in position with a steal, or even win the game by sliding home. MLB The Show 20 Sliding into Bases
As baseball enthusiasts know, sliding can occur when a player is trying to steal a base, or simply running the bases on a big play. In some instances, getting a lead for your runner is key, so to do that you can press L1 to increase all of your baserunners’ leads. If you have more than one runner press your L stick towards that runner and then prompt them to leadoff.
To sum up, controlling the baserunner(s):
- Push L1 – increase all baserunners’ leads
- Press R1 – decrease all baserunners’ leads
- Push L towards individual baserunner, then prompt leadoff
Now when it comes to MLB The Show 20 sliding, there are multiple ways to reach a base. For the bases, a player can slide with head first or feet first. Also, it’s possible to hook to the left or hook to the right.
Perform the following actions on the PS4 controller as you’re running and get near the base you want to slide into:
- To slide straight in with feet first, hold the Right Stick (RS) down as you’re getting closer to the base.
- To slide straight in head first, hold the Right Stick (RS) up as you get closer to the base.

How to Slide into Home Plate
Sliding into home plate on MLB The Show 20 has a few controllable options. These can come in handy whether trying to steal home, or slide home on a big play. Master these to make sure your runner can avoid being tagged out and score a necessary run for the team.
You can slide in straight in feet first or straight in head first.
- Slide in feet first by pressing the Right Stick (RS) down.
- Slide in head first by pressing the Right Stick (RS) up.
You can also slide wide right either head first or feet first to avoid a tag.
- Slide wide right feet first by pressing RS down and to the right.
- Slide wide right head first by pressing RS Up and the to the right.
Remember, you can work on your technique by going to the Custom Practice mode. Set up a play with a runner on base such as cover star Javier Baez of the Cubs and give the various controls a try to improve your ability to slide in MLB The Show 20.
