The MLB The Show 21 cinematic trailer looks splendid in terms of overall presentation, especially with the option to see it in 4K and 60fps for the PS5.

Included amongst the players in action are the new MLB cover star Fernando Tatis and former cover star Bryce Harper. Sluggers appear, including Mookie Betts, Bo Bichette, Manny Machado, and Freddie Freeman. Pitcher Blake Snell debuts in The Show wearing a Padres uniform.

Young stars also arrive in the trailer such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Wander Franco, and dual-threat Shohei Ohtani. There are also a number of new animations shown including Luis Robert tossing the bat after a huge hit and a Yankees celebratory moment at the plate.

The trailer had a few teases in addition to all of the star players and highlights. That included a shot at the end of the trailer featuring the late, great Roberto Clemente fielding the ball to throw it into the infield.

Most fans believe this means the Dodgers and Pirates star will appear as part of MLB The Show’s Diamond Dynasty mode. There’s also another teaser or clue of sorts with Roman numerals I, II, III, IV, V shown in different colors. However, there’s no indication of what they mean yet.

As far as graphics go, MLB The Show 21 is the first game in the franchise available on next-generation consoles. So it should take advantage of some of the hi-tech specs of Sony’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms. However, many fans believe it won’t be until MLB The Show 22 that full advantage is taken of next-gen capabilities.

Game release date and order details

It’s no secret by now that this will be the first edition of San Diego Studio’s MLB The Show available for Xbox consoles. Not only will it be on the Xbox Series X/S but also the current-gen Xbox One. That should please fans who couldn’t play The Show for many years due to their choice of console.

Pre-orders are available for most editions on all consoles. The Standard Edition for Current Gen (PS4, Xbox One) is $59.99 for digital or physical copies. The Next-Gen Standard Edition (PS5, Xbox Series X/S) is $69.99 for physical or digital. These officially arrive on April 20, 2021.

There are also several high-end editions with bonus content and four days early access (4/16) to play the game. These are The Jackie Robinson Edition for $84.99 (digital or physical), the Digital Deluxe Edition for $99.99, and the Jackie Robinson Deluxe Edition (physical) for $99.99.

Each of these copies gives owners access to play the current edition and then also play on the next-gen edition. That’s under dual entitlement for same-brand platforms (PS4 to PS5, Xbox One to X/S).
