MLB The Show 21 roster update arrives with new Diamonds
Every two weeks, an MLB The Show 21 roster update arrives in the baseball simulation game. With these updates, players’ ratings are upgraded or downgraded based on their recent performances in real-life MLB.
So players like Shohei Ohtani, who will compete in this year’s All-Star Home Run Derby, get boosts based on impressive stats. The hitting and pitching sensation is currently third overall in MLB for home runs with 24 and has 56 RBIs with a .270 batting average. He’s been moved to an 85 overall with seven other players in this week’s update. Ohtani is also leading votes so far for the AL’s designated hitter spot in the All-Star Game.
Also moving up is the May Monthly Awards winner Marcus Semien of the Toronto Blue Jays and White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon. Semien currently leads the All-Star voting for second base in the AL ahead of Jose Altuve. Chicago’s ace is currently fifth overall in MLB with his 2.06 ERA. Rodon has recorded 113 strikeouts and a 6-3 record so far this season as the White Sox are currently leading the AL’s Central Division.
Based on MLB The Show’s tweet, there was a total of 275 upgrades and downgrades in their latest roster update. Amongst the other players reaching the Diamond level are the Athletics’ Ramon Laureano, Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte, Astros’ Altuve, and Cubs’ Craig Kimbrel.
In addition to the 10 new Diamond players, there are also eight new Gold players. Check out who else moved up in MLB The Show’s report.
Two Diamond players received biggest boosts
While most of the new Diamond players in the MLB The Show 21 roster update are 85, two players went up two points to become 86 OVR. They are Chicago Cubs pitcher Craig Kimbrel and Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa.
Correa has been playing well, but unfortunately, he’s not getting quite the love he needs from fans to return to his first All-Star Game since 2017. As of this report, he was trailing Tim Anderson for third-place in votes for shortstop in the AL.
The closing pitcher Kimbrel is now in his third season with the Cubs. As of this report, he has a super low ERA of 0.59 and 52 strikeouts to go with his 20 saves. The Cubs are just 1.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers to claim the NL Central Division.
While Correa and Kimbrel had nice upgrades, the ratings also adjusted downward for other players. Among them were Dodgers star Cody Bellinger (down 3 to 87 OVR) and the Nationals’ Juan Soto (down 2 to 85 OVR).
