Over a week ago, Electronic Arts and FIFA announced they would have a FIFA 20 Stay and Play Cup. The tournament event was part of their “Stay Home, Play Together” initiative and featured 20 different international football stars competing. On Sunday, the tournament reached its finale with Mo Daramy able to claim the championship victory.
Mo Daramy is the FIFA 20 Stay and Play Cup champion
The FIFA 20 Stay and Play Cup kicked off April 15 as football players went head-to-head in a knockout tournament. After five days of matchups, just two players remained. Sunday, April 19, brought the grand final with FC Kobenhavn’s Mo Daramy taking on Jesper Karlstrom of Djurgården Fotboll.
After the buildup towards the grand finale of the tournament, Mohamed Daramy would go on to claim a thrilling 2-1 win over Karlston. That makes Daramy this year’s champion.
Daramy had to defeat HJK Helsinki’s Nikolai Alho in his first-round matchup followed by Ajax’s Sergino Dest in the Round of 16. From there, he defeated FC Porto’s Fabio Silva in the quarters.
In the semifinals, Daramy defeated AIK’s Nabil Bahoui in dramatic fashion. That victory included an equalizer late in their matchup which sent it to extra time. From there, Daramy scored a golden goal winner in the extra time.
His second golden goal arrived in the grand final. All of that hard work on the sticks has him the best of the best on FIFA amongst this group of 20 players.
The tournament featured players representing the likes of EPL clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City. There were also a number of popular international clubs including Real Madrid, FC Copenhagen, and Dortmund.
We now have to wonder if FIFA 20 Ultimate Team will give Mo Daramy a special card or ratings boost after the win. He currently has a low rating below 65 OVR in the game. Perhaps he’ll get a new card such as an IF or Moments item.
Upon winning the NBA 2K Players Tournament, 2K asked their fans about upgrading the Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker in their game. Will that happen for Daramy? The gaming community thinks so in the comments of his FUTHEAD page.
FIFA’s eMLS tournament to begin Sunday
The Stay and Play Cup helped raise money for Global Giving’s Coronavirus Relief Fund. FIFA 20 game maker Electronic Arts also donated $1 million to the organization. On Sunday night, another eSports event featuring football stars will be under the spotlight with TV and live streaming coverage.
On April 19, the FIFA 20 eMLS Tournament Special will get going which is another way to entertain fans while international football seasons are on hold. It will also help benefit charities. This one will feature a pair of players representing 16 different Major League Soccer Clubs. They’ll include Atlanta United, FC Cincinnati, and New York City, amongst others.
The teams will consist of one player from the MLS club paired up with a professional gamer. There will be games played each weekend with one winning team emerging over the next four weeks to make up the quarterfinals. Ultimately, one club will become the champion. As of Sunday, the latest eMLS Tournament odds had Atlanta as the overall favorite to win the tournament.
Fans can watch that one go live on Fox Sports 1 starting at 7 p.m. Eastern Time Sunday, April 19.
