The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Free Access Gunfight Tournament Weekend – a new event offering temporary free access to Modern Warfare’s Gunfight Tournament mode – is now live in-game. For the next five days, the mode will be free-to-play, without requiring players to own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Indeed, Warzone players can earn rewards during the event which will be fully usable in Warzone.
The Modern Warfare Free Access Gunfight Tournament
Like previous Free Access events which Activision has run for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, this new event offers temporary free access to a portion of the game’s core multiplayer. However, where past events have offered a selection of modes and maps, this event specifically offers access to Gunfight Tournament. This mode only recently returned to Modern Warfare. Along with King Slayer for Warzone, it was one of several new modes added with Season 5 Reloaded; a content update for the second half of the game’s fifth season.

“If you have a friend that hasn’t tried the full version of Modern Warfare,” writes Activision; “or are a Warzone player looking to hone your skills and unlock prestigious Gunfight Tournament rewards, then enter the tournament and go for gold”. Although described as a ‘Weekend,’ the event actually extends over five days. As such, it will remain live until the 2nd of September, giving players plenty of time to enjoy Gunfight Tournament.
The Free Access event will end just under one week prior to the multiplayer reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. In fact, it is also running parallel to the Games of Summer event; a second event which went live today in both Modern Warfare and Warzone. That event, which is a global competition and new seasonal event for the series, will be ending on the 8th of September. (The same day as the Black Ops Cold War multiplayer reveal.)
