Modern Warfare Season 4 Launch Update May be Larger Than Intended
After its postponement last week, Activision and Infinity Ward made the short notice announcement yesterday that they would be launching Modern Warfare Season 4 overnight. However, with the update now rolling out across all platforms, many players are reporting having to download a massive 84 GB update; seemingly much larger than the update should actually be.

At present, there are widespread reports on social media of Call of Duty players being faced with a massive update for Season 4. An 84 GB file size appears to be the most common figure which players are encountering; indeed, the term “84 GB” has even been trending on Twitter! However, some players have found that the download is around 32 GB; a more manageable size which may very well be the correct size of the launch update.
Activision has already confirmed that the massive update size being encountered by players may be unintended. The official Activision Support account has issued a statement on social media; “We’re actively investigating an issue for Modern Warfare where some players on Xbox are seeing a larger than expected download size for today’s update. Stay tuned for updates.”
It’s currently unknown for sure whether this problem is just affecting Xbox users; after all, the problem appears to be very widespread and there are no other official statements as of yet. However, it does indeed appear to be a bug or mistake of some sort. As such, players facing the download who have concerns about storage space may wish to pause or cancel it until such time as Infinity Ward is able to fix the issue. Certainly, players shouldn’t have to delete games from their console in order to free up hard drive space. (Especially when the update’s proper size may be less than half what it appears to be now.) Hopefully, this is an issue which the developers can resolve quickly. If not, then Season 4 may be off to a somewhat rocky start.
