Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 4 is due to end in less than a week’s time, and ahead of the launch of Season 5, Activision has released the first teaser trailer showing a glimpse of what’s to come. Specifically, it has been revealed that Season 5 will see the addition of an all-new multiplayer faction known as Shadow Company.
Modern Warfare Season 5: Shadow Company
“An elite PMC,” explains Activision; “Shadow Company operates outside the boundaries of the original Armistice. Forged from the fires of in-fighting between the Coalition and the Allegiance, Shadow Company has a framework and agenda all of their own. Ostensibly Allegiance Operators who have grown impatient with Coalition progress under the command of Captain Price, Shadow Company is a splinter group formed without compromise, ready to take the way directly to Mr. Z and into Verdansk and deal with terrorist threats directly.”
Initially, Shadow Company will only number three different Operators; Rozlin “Roze” Helms, Velikan, and Marcus “Lerch” Ortega. First up, Roze is an ex-Jackals member and an old contact of Mace. Velikan, meanwhile, is an enigmatic individual whose true identity is unknown. Finally, the group’s leader is Lerch; a former US Marine who turned to mercenary work after leaving the military. All three of these characters will be coming to Modern Warfare and Warzone with the launch of Season 5.
It’s currently unknown how Infinity Ward will handle the addition of a third multiplayer faction. Of course, anybody can play whomever they want in Warzone. However, in Modern Warfare’s standard multiplayer modes, players typically fight on two opposing sides; representing the forces of the Coalition and Allegiance. It’s unclear how Shadow Company will fit into this, especially as there will only be three of them initially. However, from a narrative standpoint, it seems that the organisation will be doing a great deal to advance the ongoing story.
