After almost a year of exclusivity to the PlayStation 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Survival Mode is finally available on other platforms. Survival Mode has long been the sole exclusive feature of Modern Warfare on PS4, ever since the game’s launch. That period has now finally ended.
Modern Warfare Survival Mode No Longer PS4 Exclusive
“Squad up and fight waves of increasingly difficult and determined enemies in a variety of experiences in Survival Mode,” writes Infinity Ward; “now available on PC and Xbox.”
Survival Mode was available for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as a variant multiplayer mode at launch. However, it was the only feature of the game which was locked to console exclusivity, meaning that it was only available on the PS4. Since then, Infinity Ward has launched several new maps for the mode, expanding the content available. However, it has always remained exclusive to the PS4. At long last, the period of exclusivity has ended. Modern Warfare Survival Mode is finally available on both the Xbox and PC.
For players unfamiliar with Survival Mode, the mode is similar to the game’s Spec Ops mode. Players work together to take on waves of enemies in a classic horde-mode-style experience. (Rather than completing the core mission format of Spec Ops mode.) The mode hasn’t received the same amount of content that Spec Ops has over the last year. Nonetheless, it is a substantial portion of Modern Warfare which has been unavailable to Xbox and PC gamers until now.
The release of Survival Mode on other platforms comes just a day after the first official teaser of the Zombies mode coming later this year in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. That mode, which is also a survival mode of sorts, looks set to be a far more substantial part of its game. (As to be expected, given its lineage in the Black Ops franchise.)
