Creative Assembly, the studio behind the Total War series, has teased fans with an upcoming announcement. Just a few days ago, the official Total War Twitter account posted a mysterious message that; “A fantastical announcement is drawing near…” accompanied by an image of an X and the date of the 4th of October, 2018.

A New Total War Announcement?
The Total War announcement teaser is certainly enigmatic; it gives very few obvious clues, if any, as to what it could be referring to. Creative Assembly’s next upcoming title is Total War: Three Kingdoms, and the studio just recently announced the game’s release date in March 2019. As a result, the announcement is unlikely to be related to Three Kingdoms. The image attached to the Tweet appears to depict the date written on a sheet of parchment. In fact, some hopeful fans have suggested that it could be an announcement for a Medieval III Total War. However, the message attached doesn’t seem to support that theory.
The message makes a point to use the word “fantastical”; seemingly discounting any purely historical settings. Of late, Creative Assembly has enjoyed great success with its Total War: Warhammer series, produced in concert with Games Workshop, the tabletop war-gaming company. As such, a more likely theory is that the announcement will be for the next DLC for Total War: Warhammer 2. Given the timing in relation to Creative Assembly’s other projects, it certainly seems more likely to be a DLC announcement than one for a new game, whether Warhammer-related or something new. At present, Total War: Warhammer is the studio’s only fantasy series. Although games like Three Kingdoms may feature a “heightened realism” of sorts inspired by the legends surrounding the time, the game is not truly “fantastical” per se. Whatever the case, fans only have a week to wait before the announcement is revealed.
