FaZe Clan’s Nate Hill was recently accused of cheating in the Fortnite Battle Royale Fall Skirmish tournament. Nate and his teammate Funkbomb tried to gain an advantage of their opponents in an unfair way. At the end, the duo team finished in the 27th place out of 50 teams.
Even though Nate Hill and his partner deleted all the videos which showed what they were doing, some Fortnite players managed to save the videos and put them up on other platforms. At the moment, it is unknown what Epic Games will do regarding this incident. However, Nate Hill released a statement on Reddit, explaining his side of the story.
The incident
Epic Games has officially opened the Fall Skirmish tournament on Friday, September 21. Nate Hill and Funkbomb participated in the opening week, and one of the games Funkbomb was eliminated first. After this, he left the game and watched the official Fortnite Battle Royale stream, providing his partner with useful information about enemies.
It appears that Funkbomb realized this was wrong, and he stopped doing it shortly after. However, many players still consider this to be cheating, which is why Nate Hill released a statement. The Fortnite Battle Royale player posted a lengthy explanation on Reddit, revealing what happened during the tournament.
The statement
“We both realize the impact this could have had on the integrity of the competition and were fortunate to not have it do so. Funk made a mistake and he owns up to it, but those calling for him to be perma-banned and calling him a scumbag couldn’t be more misinformed. It was a mistake made by an otherwise great guy/player. He felt bad before anyone caught him cheating and self Reported to Epic. That is not the trait of a scumbag, that is someone being honest forthcoming and owning up to their mistakes,” Nate Hill wrote in the Reddit post.
The player also said that he shouldn’t have deleted the videos. He simply tried to protect his friend, but it was too late for that. “Funk clearly makes the call out, but realizes what he just did may be cheating and goes completely radio silent after the fact. It was a mistake and a big one at that, but I hope others realize it wasn’t malicious and out of character for Funk. Everyone makes mistakes, just not always in front of thousands of people. I think we will both learn and grow from this,” Nate Hill added.
Nate Hill said that he and Funk apologized to other players. However, they used this opportunity to apologize to the community as well. “I am not a cheater, and ive given my life to this game and the community around it,” is what the player ended his statement with.
There are many different reactions from the community. Many players still want Nate Hill and his partner banned. On the other side, some people believe that this was an honest mistake. Epic Games will most likely add stream delay to Fortnite Battle Royale tournaments from now on. However, it will be interesting to see how the game developer will handle this situation.
