On Tuesday, May 5, the NBA 2K League 2020 games officially begin remotely. However, the league will also have the games on live telecast for the first time since it started several years ago. This is thanks to a brand new partnership that ESPN and NBA 2K League have arranged to provide the competitions for viewers to watch on TV or online.
ESPN to telecast and live stream NBA 2K League 2020 games this season
The big news arrived earlier today in a statement from 2K League. They announced that NBA 2K League 2020 games will air on ESPN2 and stream on the ESPN apps/website starting on Tuesday, May 5. They’ll continue to air on subsequent Tuesdays up until May 19.
As of May 26, matchups for the NBA 2K League 2020 will be telecast on ESPN, although details have not yet arrived for those telecasts or live streams.
As seen in the Twitter announcement below, there will be matchups live streaming on the ESPN app or website on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Based on their announcement, “Every NBA 2K League match on ESPN’s platforms will also air live in the Caribbean, Latin America, Oceania and Sub-Saharan Africa on ESPN2 or on one of ESPN’s digital platforms.”
Among the first games on the 2020 schedule will be a matchup featuring the 2019 2K League runners-up 76ers GC as they take on Raptors Uprising GC.
Previously, NBA 2K League games were only live streaming on specific online platforms such as Twitch and the league’s YouTube. So this makes for a major deal in terms of the growth of the league.
It also comes as sports leagues have been suspended or canceled including NBA, due to the coronavirus pandemic. With the popularity of the NBA 2K Players League Tournament on ESPN and ESPN2, it makes sense to bring more NBA 2K20 games to viewers. These will involve professional gamers who may make some of the NBA stars from that tournament look like amateurs.
