On Thursday, April 9, basketball fans witnessed the quarterfinals round of the NBA 2K Players Tournament. It arrived days after the first round of the exclusive tourney which features NBA stars playing NBA 2K20 to prove who’s the best gamer. In the latest matchups, viewers got to see stars Trae Young, Andre Drummond, and Devin Booker as they tried to build upon their first-round wins. Here’s a look at how the NBA 2K Players Tournament quarterfinals results went.
NBA 2K Players Tournament Quarterfinals results: Hachimura vs. Booker
Rui Hachimura vs. Devin Booker kicked off the NBA 2K Tournament quarterfinals schedule. The Suns’ Booker took the Dallas Mavs as his team while the Wizards’ Hachimura went with the Los Angeles Clippers. Rui had the 17-15 lead with the Clips in a close first quarter. Both guys were knocking down threes in the second quarter, but Booker stepped up the defense. That helped him claim a 32-28 lead at the half.
Luka Doncic started to heat up towards the end of the third for Booker and that helped him push his lead to 50-37. In the fourth, Booker kept things up as he maintained his double-digit lead. Rui couldn’t find an answer in terms of long-range shooting. Final: Devin Booker wins it 71-55.
Derrick Jones Jr. vs. Montrezl Harrell
It was the Dallas Mavs again, this time for Derrick Jones. Montrezl Harrell went with the Portland Trail Blazers as his team. It was 20-16 in favor of Harrell’s Blazers in a close battle heading into the second.
The Cavs once again showed their ability to play D and use size inside. While Harrell had a double-digit lead, Jones got it much closer. At halftime, it was 34-28 in Harrell’s favor. However, Portland won another quarter. Harrell’s Blazers held an 11-point lead going into the fourth.
Derrick Jones Jr. started to go on a streak late. With under a minute to play he had it down to a five point game, but Harrell answered. After a turnover by the Mavs, Montrezl decided to play it smart and run the clock. Jones fouled him and he missed both. That left the door open and Jones capitalized with threes and fouling. Final: Montrezl Harrell wins it 71-66.
DeAndre Ayton vs. Trae Young
Ayton went with the Clippers while Young took the Lakers. The two players talked shop including how they were working out. Young said he’s set up a gym in his garage, while Ayton said he just bought a treadmill. By the way, Trae was also wearing a hoodie with a yellow heart on the chest with the numbers 8 and 24 for Kobe Bryant.
At the end of the first quarter, Ayton’s Clippers were up 22-13. Young felt LeBron would carry him, but it was 36-29 in favor of Ayton’s Clippers by halftime. Young managed to catch up with the Lakers thanks to a strong third quarter. We had a 51-50 game going into the fourth quarter of action.
The two teams were trading shots in the fourth, until Ayton got a huge dunk with the and one to make it a three-point game. On the other end, Anthony Davis went to the line for the Lakers to get back to a one-point contest.
Young stepped up his defense and Ayton got a backcourt violation. However, Young coughed the ball up and PG13 got the breakaway dunk. Another missed shot by the Lakers led to two free throws and a seven-point lead for Ayton’s Clips.
Young nailed a three with LeBron with 20 seconds left and then stole it. An AD dunk made it a three-point game. Final: In the end, Ayton took it 73-66.
Patrick Beverley vs. Andre Drummond
Dre went with the Milwaukee Bucks so Pat Beverly countered with the Philadelphia 76ers. By the end of one quarter, it was 21-10 in favor of Drummond’s Bucks, thanks to Giannis and good outside shooting. It was 36-30 at the half in favor of Drummond’s Bucks thanks to lots of free-throw opportunities.
Dre had a 46-45 lead with the Bucks to start the fourth, but Beverly was able to complete the and one to get ahead by a point. The trash talking kicked up into high gear when Beverly went up by nine points with just over two minutes to go.
While Beverly seemed he was going to pull away, Dre kept knocking down threes to keep it within five or six. Some solid defense helped Dre get another opportunity while down just five, but he couldn’t get the inside shot with Giannis. Beverly kept up the trash talk and pulled away. Final: Patrick Beverly takes it 69-62.
What are the Semifinals matchups?
So now the NBA 2K Tournament quarterfinals are completed with four players moving on. That means there are two semifinals matchups set to determine who will compete in the championship game.
The Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker will take on the Los Angeles Clippers’ Montrezl Harrell in one semifinals matchup featuring a Kentucky vs. Louisville battle. In the other matchup, it will be the Suns’ DeAndre Ayton taking on the Clippers’ Patrick Beverly. Will we have an-Suns or all-Clippers championship game?
The NBA 2K Tournament semifinals matchups will take place on Saturday with ESPN televising and WatchESPN giving the live stream.
