The top-rated player within the basketball video game world is NBA 2K19 cover athlete LeBron James. His overall number tops his peers such as Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and James Harden. Even fellow cover athlete Giannis Antetounmkpo is rated below “King James.” That said, there are no ratings in the game for NBA players’ off-court endeavors including philanthropy. However, James would be highly-rated there as well. That’s why the 2K Games company teamed up with Xbox to give something special to James’ school.
LeBron James’ I Promise School
Months ago, LeBron James made headlines for the opening of his brand new school called the I Promise School. It offered only a select number of youth the opportunity to attend and pursue academics. However, the students were selected due to their hardships such as troubled family lives, or mistreatment, rather than being child prodigies.
The school officially opened in late July in LeBron’s home area of Cleveland, Ohio. While he’s no longer a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, he visited the school recently as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. A group of photos below shows the King’s visit and how much the children were enjoying the superstar’s presence.

The school is providing the opportunity for these students to one day excel towards a high school diploma, college degree, and even a successful career. Basically, James has given the children hope through his generous gift, and it’s only natural many other individuals have taken notice. Others are also looking to pitch in towards a better future.
LeBron James’ school gets a new game room
Due to LeBron’s generosity, two of the video game world’s top companies teamed up to give back to his school. 2K Games, which includes 2K Sports, joined forces with Microsoft Xbox to create a stylish, fun, and entertaining game suite within the school.
The LeBron James Family Foundation tweeted out images of their sweet new gaming room on Thursday. As one can see, the suite is bold, colorful, bright, and not just full of video games. There’s also a Foosball table, checkers, and computers for students to use. One can see the walls decorated with the school’s motto of “We Are Family” which helps bring the students and staff together as a unified group.

Xbox still made sure to include sports video games and naturally the NBA 2K19 game is among those offered. They also gave out some slick customized Xbox One I Promise controllers with student names personalized on them.

LeBron James may inspire more philanthropy
The students are clearly loving the new room inside the school. It looks like it will provide a great escape into the world of video game entertainment. After all, there are teenagers now making real incomes participating in eSports. It’s always possible that other companies will step up to offer some sort of tournament for scholarship money or other educational prizes, giving even more opportunity for children to excel in the future.
NBA 2K19 cover athlete LeBron James has shown he’s more than just a great basketball player and top-rated video game character. The NBA star is also a real-life hero inspiring others to succeed. It’s no wonder that 2K and Xbox chose to show their appreciation to the King.
