NBA 2K19 Playoffs Simulation: Trail Blazers Vs. Nuggets Game 7
While the first four games in this series were decided by 10 points or less, Game 6 and Game 7 were not. This series also featured a postseason classic with a Game 3 that went to four overtimes. Portland claimed that one in the fourth extra session, 140-137. So will they capitalize with a big Game 7 win on the road? Will Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers rise up again?
We saw both teams come out hot for the first quarter and score in bunches. As the Q1 buzzer sounded, the home side held a slim 33-31 lead. Jamal Murray had nine points to lead the way for Denver early. The Nuggets surged to an eight-point lead in the second quarter punctuated by a Mason Plumlee cutback dunk.
Lillard started to heat up with seven-straight points to chip into the lead but teammate CJ McCollum was cold. As Portland couldn’t continue to score, the Nuggets were up 17 at the half. It was 64-47 making things look tough for the Blazers.
Portland would pick things up to start the third quarter, though. They’d score a quick unanswered seven points to cut the lead to just 10. Five of those points were courtesy of McCollum. The Blazers kept up the scoring effort to make it a six-point game. The Nuggets went cold with a 27 percent shooting effort. With under three minutes in the quarter, Damian Lillard finally got the lead back for Portland, 76-75. As the quarter closed, it was 83-79 in favor of the visitors.
Trail Blazers vs. Nuggets Game 7 outcome, team stats leaders
It was “do or die” time in the fourth, but Denver started out with a bad turnover. Rodney Hood had a sweet dunk to extend Portland’s lead to six. Jokic finally answered with a basket on the other end. The Blazers didn’t let up and held a seven-point lead with over eight minutes left. After a run including several fouls, Denver surged right back and was up one by the 6:48 mark. Murray was the catalyst for that comeback and his assist on a three-pointer with under three minutes left helped build the lead to seven.
With just over a minute to go, Denver held the 103-98 advantage. A post-up turnaround from Jokic made it a seven-point lead as Portland was forced to call a timeout. Lillard would connect on a huge three to make it a four-point game with 25 seconds to go and the Blazers had to foul to stop the clock. Harris hit one of two free throws. Portland had a bad turnover to give the ball right back after a timeout and after two Millsap foul shots, it was all but over. Lillard nailed another three, but too little, too late. Denver wins the Trail Blazers vs. Nuggets Game 7 by a final of 110-104.
For the winners, it was a balanced overall effort. Will Barton had 18 points, while Jamal Murray and Gary Harris each added 17. All-Star Nikola Jokic had an impressive 16 points and 17 boards, while Paul Millsap ended up with 13 points and 11 boards. Damian Lillard finished with 28 points on 10-for-27 shooting with four three points. CJ McCollum had 22 points, six boards, and 11 assists in the losing effort.
