On July 1, basketball gaming fans learned that the newest member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis, will grace the cover of the upcoming NBA 2K20. Davis appears on both the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions of the upcoming game, while Dwyane Wade will appear on the Legend Edition. Since Wade retired from the league, the cover featuring him in a Miami Heat jersey will be the official Legend cover. However, Davis will have an NBA 2K20 cover change ahead of the game’s release due to his change of teams.
NBA 2K20 cover change before release date
According to an LA Times’ interview with Davis, when his cover was revealed, it showed the upcoming Lakers All-Star in what appears to be a Pelicans jersey. However, he’s hiding behind a basketball with his arms crossed. Fans know that Davis was part of a major trade involving the Lakers and Pelicans, so that cover won’t be the official one for the game’s release.
Instead, they’ll have an NBA 2K20 cover change. Davis will officially be wearing his Los Angeles Lakers jersey on the front of the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions of the new game. It’s similar to what happened with MLB The Show 19 ahead of its release date. It was unknown which team their cover star Bryce Harper would be part of. Harper was a free agent, so once it was official that he joined the Philadelphia Phillies, the cover showed him in the proper jersey.
It should be an exciting season for Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers. The power forward/center has career averages of 23.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. He’ll join LeBron James as a proud member of the historic Lakers franchise. He’ll also serve as one of the main promotional stars for the new 2K game cover.
There’s just a short wait for the NBA trade involving the Lakers’ Anthony Davis and New Orleans Pelicans. Once the deal is official as of July 6, the NBA 2K20 cover change can take place. With the game set to release in early September, that gives plenty of time for the design and graphics team to get to work.
Game coming to new Stadia platform later
Another piece of information about the release involves availability on a brand new gaming platform. Google announced their new platform called Stadia earlier this year. Based on NBA 2K20 release materials, there will be an NBA 2K20 Stadia version but it will come at a later release date.
The Google Stadia is only a controller that gamers can use with their own screen whether it’s a laptop desktop, Pixel phones, and more. It will have an associated fee for premium streaming where gamers can stream various titles in high quality up to 4K.
The Stadia is currently available for pre-order for $129 through the Google website (or tweet below). It’s certainly going to be interesting to see and hear how this version of the NBA 2K20 game compares to ones on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
NBA 2K20 has an official release date of Friday, September 6, 2019, for all the versions except on Google Stadia. The Stadia version is available in November 2019 with no specific date given.
