The recent reveal of the two NBA 2K20 cover stars showed fans that Anthony Davis and Dwyane Wade will appear on the front of specific editions. While the new member of the Lakers is on the front of the 2K20 Standard and Digital Deluxe editions, D-Wade is the man represented proudly on the NBA 2K20 Legend cover. It’s a great looking design too, complete with South Beach color schemes and some interesting extras. Both covers featured a lot of thought and work to get the right guys and look for 2K20.
Ronnie 2K discusses NBA 2K20 cover stars: Legend Dwyane Wade, inspirations
The NBA 2K20 pre-orders are already underway for the different versions of the upcoming video game. Each version has a different cover depicting either Anthony Davis or Dwyane Wade. In a recent collection of 2KTV video clips, show hosts Alexis Morgan and Chris Manning spoke with NBA 2K’s Ronnie 2K. In particular, he talks about the NBA 2K20 cover stars. That includes that sweet NBA 2K20 Legend cover with future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade on front.
In one clip where he talks with Alexis, he says it was important to have the recently-retired Miami Heat star on the cover. Wade follows up his good friend LeBron who graced last year’s Legend Edition. Basically, Ronnie says it’s important to “pay homage to the guys that have meant a lot to the NBA.”
In another clip, Ronnie puts it over as “one of the best covers ever,” and he has a great point there. He mentions how it’s iconic because it not only celebrates D-Wade’s superstar career but also the cultural aspects of South Beach, a place many people love to visit.
Ronnie 2K discusses Anthony Davis’ cover, video game fandom, & contributions
As mentioned, Anthony Davis is the main cover athlete for both the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions of NBA 2K20. Chris Manning asked Ronnie2K about keeping the cover a secret, and also what exactly goes into making the choice for the NBA 2K20 cover stars.
Interestingly, Ronnie 2K says the player they choose has to be a fan of the game, and also “on the ascent in their NBA career.” The 2K20 campaign’s story is to showcase the “Next” as in the “next chapter” in Davis’ career.
Ronnie also spoke about what he’s learned about cover athlete Anthony Davis over the years. He started off by talking about how Davis was making all the headlines in the offseason so he’s appropriately on the game’s cover. In addition, he says that Davis “has a lot of wisdom to impart on us.” That’s due to him playing a lot of NBA 2K and different modes. He’s also able to tell 2K what’s exciting to him about the game.
As we recently mentioned, an Anthony Davis cover change will be coming ahead of the game’s September 6, 2019 release date. However, there’s no arguing that he was among the biggest stories this offseason. The trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Lakers instantly made the historic franchise a contender again, as he’ll team with LeBron James.
While the covers are mostly just a decorative outside element for a 2K game, it’s clear that plenty of attention went into choosing the right NBA 2K20 cover stars to represent the brand going into the new season.
