The NBA 2K20 release date is just a week away and the 2K crew is celebrating by revealing new ratings. The latest reveal features the top five dunkers in the league based on their NBA 2K20 player ratings. It’s a five-man group that consists of rookie star Zion Williamson and players who have competed in the NBA Slam Dunk contest before. Let’s take a look at the best dunkers within the NBA and whether they got this right.
Zion leads top dunkers in NBA 2K20 player ratings
While we’ve seen NBA 2K20 player ratings for most of the guys in the league, 2K is bringing us a more in-depth look. Weeks ago during the top 20 player ratings reveal, we learned of the top five overall players and top five shooters. Now we have the top five dunkers.
There’s very little surprise with who they chose as the top dunker. NBA 2K20 is predicting that New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson will show himself to be the top dunker in the league. He checks in with a top overall dunk rating of 97. Fans are wondering if this guy will live up to the hype. If he doesn’t show enough during the games, this number may drop some. So far, based on that nasty preseason takeaway from Kevin Knox of the Knicks and vicious dunk after it, he’s shown a glimpse of what’s coming.
Just below him are two players who are certainly deserving and have proven they are among the league’s best in the category. Zach Lavine is the first of the two to check in with a 96 overall dunk rating. Viewers have seen plenty of evidence of his ability to soar and rattle rims with a number of innovative moves. LaVine is a previous Slam Dunk Contest winner. In fact, he won it back-to-back which has some fans questioning whether he should be a 97 too.

Let’s not forget Donovan “Spida” Mitchell. The Utah Jazz guard is looking forward to a big season as he’ll play alongside veteran guard Mike Conley in the backcourt. He’ll also be looking for a few ally oop slams form Conley here or there during the season. Mitchell’s 96 seems to be questionable with some gamers calling him “overrated” and others saying it should be a 97. However, Mitchell can certainly rise to the rim and slam it home. He also won the Dunk Contest just two seasons ago.

More dunk contest stars complete top 5
Two more NBA Slam Dunk Contest stars are tied with 95 overall dunk ratings. First up, we’ve got Aaron Gordon of the Orlando Magic. Who can forget his double under the knees dunk and the jump over the mascot to slam home the ball? The Magic star was also on the verge of becoming an All-Star, much like most of the other guys on the list here. Some may feel Gordon should also be one of the 96 dunkers, though, and that’s a fair assessment.

Last but not least is a guy unlikely to make the 2020 NBA All-Star team, but he captured plenty of attention last All-Star Weekend. It’s the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Hamidou Diallo. He won the 2019 NBA Slam Dunk title. While it’s unknown if he’ll appear to defend the title this season, 2K feels his dunking in the player ratings is deserving of a 95 score heading into the new season.

Of course, these NBA 2K20 player ratings have opened up the debates. For example, those who feel Zion Williamson needs to prove himself in the league against stronger competition. That is coming soon, but first, he’ll be dunking all over his opponents in NBA 2K20. The new game arrives on September 6, 2019, for PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PCs.
