The NBA 2K20 Players Tournament is a special event taking place on ESPN in April in the absence of live sports. It will feature 16 NBA stars putting their video game skills to the test with NBA 2K20 in a tournament spanning 10 days. Players will include Kevin Durant, Donovan Mitchell, Trae Young, and DeMarcus Cousins. We’ve had a look at the odds for the first-round matchups, and odds to win the whole thing. Several players are already major favorites, but underdog options loom.
Young, Mitchell amongst biggest favorites on board for first round
Some of the players coming into the big NBA 2K20 Players-Only Tournament have serious credibility when it comes to gaming as they’ve put in the time. However, the oddsmakers have pegged two All-Stars as the best of the bunch for the first round. They are Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell and Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young, per odds from Sports Betting Dime.
Young is the No. 2 seed and is favored by 9.5 points over his opponent Harrison Barnes. Meanwhile, No. 4 seed Donovan Mitchell is favored by 8.5 points to defeat Rui Hachimura of the Wizards. Next is No. 8 seed Montrezl Harrell, who the odds predict will beat No. 9 seed Damontas Sabonis by 7.5 points.
Here’s a look at the full odds from Sports Betting Dime:
As seen above, DeMarcus Cousins, DeAndre Ayton, and All-Star Devin Booker have been predicted to have very close first-round wins. However, it’s been noted that the two Phoenix Suns stars have some experience playing video games, just not 2K perhaps.
NBA 2K20 Tournament predictions: Who will win it all?
Kevin Durant and Trae Young lead the way as the favorites at +500 and +600 respectively. However, the Phoenix Suns’ DeAndre Ayton isn’t far behind at +650, followed by Mitchell and Whiteside at +800 each. Here’s a look at the complete odds-to-win for the big NBA 2K20 Tournament on ESPN.
It’s hard to say how skilled some of these players are, but maybe KD has had a lot of time to practice on the sticks since he’s been sidelined all season. It’s also possible that certain players have reputations around the league as putting in more time than others.
Donovan Mitchell is one guy we know plays quite a bit, including his recent 2K victory over Ronnie 2K. Another one to watch is the Suns’ Devin Booker, who is an avid gamer. At +1000 that’s a nice risk to pick up some cash. Obviously, all of these guys are in the tournament for a reason, so it won’t be a huge surprise if one of the +1600 or even +2000 players makes a run at the title.
Catch the NBA 2K20 Tournament when it starts with a half-hour pre-show at 7/6c on Friday, April 3 via ESPN. At 8:30 p.m. ET fans can watch the rest of the first-round action on ESPN2. In addition, the WatchESPN apps and website will have live streaming video for subscribers.
