One of the newest additions to the NBA 2K game in 2019-20 will be the inclusion of the WNBA teams and players. A few days ago, the first official WNBA gameplay trailer arrived online. It included WNBA stars Candace Parker and Breanna Stewart in the real footage, as it showed them participating in motion capture. They also spoke about what it meant to them to have the WNBA in the game. As of then, just one of the NBA 2K20 ratings was available for Breanna Stewart, but now Candace Parker is revealed.
NBA 2K20 ratings: Parker vs. Stewart
After the 2K WNBA video, the Seattle Storm’s main star “Stewie” received a 95 OVR for her NBA 2K20 ratings. It was the first rating revealed, so it was hard to gauge if that would be the best OVR, but with Candace Parker’s reveal it appears so. Parker will be a 93 OVR when the new game arrives in September.
The 6-foot-4 Candace Parker has been in the WNBA since 2008 making her one of the league’s top stars. She’s averaged 17.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game in her career, per Basketball-Reference. She’s also a five-time All-Star and two-time league MVP.
Interestingly, her numbers in 2018 are mostly above her career averages, but her current season has been much lower. Parker is averaging just 10.5 points per game after 10 games. As mentioned with other NBA 2K20 ratings, a rating like this gives her some room to improve, and it makes sense when compare to Breanna Stewart’s OVR.
Harrell praises WNBA addition to 2K20
Montrezl Harrell was amongst the Los Angeles Clippers’ bench heroes last season. He’s also apparently an avid gamer. A number of gamers have been quick to dismiss the idea of having the WNBA in 2K20. Based on a tweet, Harrell seems to be fully in support of the WNBA being added to the NBA 2K20 ratings and overall game.
With the arrival of the WNBA gameplay trailer and first WNBA ratings reveals, there have been plenty of comments. Most of them have been disrespecting the league, or even trying to compare the first few ratings to the ratings the men’s players have. It’s important to understand that the WNBA ratings are relative to these players’ skills and talent in their league, and not as compared to the NBA necessarily.
Also, the inclusion of WNBA into NBA 2K20 could aid in the growth of both the league and the gaming community as a whole. It doesn’t seem that video games are stopping anytime soon, and females are earning their spot. Hopefully, more NBA players will show support for the women’s league in the 2K product. It should also be interesting to see what unfolds with the WNBA aspect as far as MyTeam or other modes once the game arrives.
The NBA 2K20 title has a release date of September 6, 2019 for Xbox, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PCs.
