The NBA 2K20 release date is still months away but that isn’t stopping avid gamers from speculating. One of the popular things to do with each new sports game that is on the way is guess who will get what ratings. In particular, speculating on the rookie ratings is fun to do, since they’ve yet to officially ball in the professional league. Among the NBA 2K20 rookie ratings in the new game will be some talented stars including Zion Williamson, R.J. Barrett, and Ja Morant.
Ja Morant among top NBA 2K20 Rookie ratings
When the NBA Draft 2019 edition hits in June, it’s expected that Duke’s Zion Williamson will have his name called first. After that, most NBA mock drafts are predicting Murray State’s Ja Morant will go second. He’s a talented point guard who can provide great skills to the team that gets him. At the No. 2 spot right now is the Memphis Grizzlies, a team rumored to be trading away their point guard Mike Conley.
Recently, Morant stopped by the NBA Store in New York City. He also took to social media to do a quick Q&A session with fans. During that, he answered a question about what he expects his rookie rating to be in NBA 2K20.

Based on his reply, Ja Morant expects to be an 82 when the game launches, but wouldn’t mind being a 99. That’s the aspiration of most players who enter the game, but not many are even near that level. As far as rookies go, one has to believe Zion Williamson will top the rookie ratings in this year’s new edition of 2K. Ja Morant shouldn’t be too far behind, though.
Ratings reality for 2019 NBA rookies
When the 2018 rookies arrived, no player in that draft class was rated higher than 79 at the start of the season. That included the talented players vying for NBA Rookie of the Year next month. The No. 1 pick DeAndre Ayton was a 79 as of the game’s launch and so was international phenomenon Luka Doncic. Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young was just a 77, and No. 2 draft pick Marvin Bagley was a 78. These players currently have different ratings in the game, including their recent Generation Next cards.
Morant is getting early comparisons to one of the game’s star point guards: Russell Westbrook. However, it’s unlikely he’ll enter NBA 2K20 as an 82. In the video below, one gamer already has Morant playing for the Grizzlies in NBA 2K19 as an 81 overall.
Ja Morant certainly brings some talent to the league as he averaged 24.5 points, 10 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game in his 2018-19 season. He was also given the 2019 Bob Cousy Award which goes out to the top point guard in the NCAA.
That said, he’ll still be under constant scrutiny by fans, analysts, and of course the 2K ratings crew. If he enters the NBA 2K20 rookie ratings with an 82, that’ll be a major surprise, as it would put him ahead of where last year’s top players ranked.
Until the first rookie ratings are revealed we won’t know Ja Morant’s actual numbers. One has to think an 82 is more likely for the top prospect Zion Williamson and Morant could have a 78 or 79. The NBA Draft arrives on June 20, while NBA 2K20 has yet to be announced.
