NBA 2K21 Gameplay Brings New Jump Shot Landings

As the arrival of the new NBA 2K game is days away, gamers are getting a glimpse at an exciting new celebratory aspect of the basketball sim. Part of the NBA 2K21 gameplay will include new jump shot landings, where players celebrate their shots after landing on the court. There are a bunch of these landing animations which will be available, but 2K has teased just a handful so far.

New NBA 2K21 gameplay teased with jump Shot landings

As of Saturday, we got a preview of five of the jump shot landings from the new NBA 2K21 gameplay. Per NBA 2K’s social media posts, there will be a total of 40 new ones in the game. That’s quite a variety of celebrations which should keep things fresh in the game.

Among the jump shot landings seen in the clips are Bye Bye Bye and the Power. Those were made famous by Damian Lillard and LeBron James, respectively. Dame, the 2K21 current-gen cover star used the goodbye wave after hitting a huge shot in the playoffs against the Oklahoma City Thunder. LeBron is known for using the Powder clap after powdering his hands pre-game, but now it will be part of a post-shot celebration.

Also previewed in the clips below are the Takeoff, Bouncey, and Windmill. The latter of these almost resembles strumming an air guitar while kneeling with one knee on the court.

New shot types and shot meter in game

Those new jump shot landings also join other new aspects of gameplay including new shot types. 2K had the following to say on their Courtside Report:

On the shooting animation side, you can expect a plethora of new shot types, including Harden’s unique 1-foot running fadeaway. And a quick note for all the Park players… we’ve added over 40 new Park Jump Shot Landings for you to show off with when you hit from outside.

The other big change that comes with all that is the new shot meter revealed a week or so ago. Luckily NBA 2K21 gameplay director Mike Wang gave some helpful advice on how to use it in the new game.

Gamers can try out the new shot meter and a few other aspects of the upcoming game on the NBA 2K21 demo. Otherwise, the full game arrives as of Sept. 4 for current-gen consoles. Visit our NBA 2K news page here to see more about the new game.
