Series aims to encourage young Black voters, millennials, and Gen Z
The news of More Than a Vote’s initiative in NBA 2K21 first arrived via an Axios report. According to the website, the second episode of the series will feature the Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young.
“I’d just turned 18 during the last presidential election, and I didn’t fully grasp how important it was to exercise my right to vote,” Young said with regards to the voting situation. “This time I understand what’s at stake.”
The initiative looks to encourage young Black voters to get their voices heard in the upcoming election. As mentioned, it also applies to the millennials and Generation Z voters.
In 2016, 88 percent of Americans aged 18 to 30 said they intended to vote in 2016. However, only 43 percent of them actually did, based on American National Election Studies data.
