As NBA 2K21 makes its transition to the next-generation consoles, they are not just upgrading graphics and gameplay, but other modes as well. On Friday, they revealed the completely re-branded and renamed NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Franchise mode. It will be called MyNBA on the 2K game for Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. Here are some of the highlights of what to expect.
NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Franchise Gets Makeover as MyNBA with more customization
With the NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Franchise mode, MyNBA, gamers now can customize to their heart’s content. That involves being able to have a fantasy draft, choose the roster types your franchise uses, and in a new addition, customize league rules. Basically, it’ll be possible to set up how rules work in categories ranging from the Draft Lottery to in-game rules to the playoffs system, salary caps, and how overtime works.
With the Customize League, gamers can move teams into new divisions, replace current teams, and even add in classic, all-time, or custom teams. They’ve also made it possible to set up your league with as few as 12 teams, or as many as 36.
As far as rosters go, there are several options there. Current 2K Sports rosters or injury-free 2K Sports rosters are available. There will also be the option to use customized rosters.
There’s Advanced CBA Rules customization setting that lets gamers make things more or less challenging for their franchise experience. Basically, there are options to turn certain CBA Rules off and on so that the game isn’t too difficult for everyone. Others may want more of a challenge, so this makes sense. Things like Trade Finances, Waiver Rules, and Dead Cap can be left on by default or turned off.
Gamers can also adjust things like the role-playing options for their league such as Conversations, Scoring, Skills, Tasks, and Morale/Chemistry. There will be the option to turn them on or off which will impact what happens as the franchise goes forth.
Of course, there will also be Budget and Finances customization. In the MyNBA mode, gamers can have complete control over things like Salary Cap, Hard Cap, and even prices for tickets and concessions.
New Franchise features include playable G League schedule, revamped Boom/Bust system
One of the brand new features in the NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Franchise will be a fully-playable G League schedule. Gamers will be able to perform a quick sim, or SimCast, or SimCast Live with the ability to jump in or out of the games. Of course, the games are also fully playable.
A revamped Boom/Bust system will be in the game for the younger players in the league. Basically, this gives a “more dynamic growth path” for the young rising stars of the league. They’ll have a low and high-potential floor and ceiling. Players will each have probabilities for boom, bust, or end up as something in between those.
However, it’s noted that players will remain “exciting” up until age 23 and could still see how they turn out change based on a number of factors. As mentioned, gamers will need to pay attention to the scouting prospects for players once they’re in the league.
2K Share Setups and Scenarios give community more options
With 2K Share Setups, gamers can share their MyNBA customized setups with the community, allowing others to play under specific league rules. As mentioned in their notes, this can allow gamers to set up the rules and customizations for an era of the past such as Magic vs. Bird, or Jordan’s Bulls dynasty.
2K Share Scenarios lets the community save their progress in a certain scenario and upload it for the community members to try out. As an example, they could have a team like the Clippers down 0-3 to the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. So other gamers can download it to try out a unique Share Scenario to see how they perform.
Those are just some of the highlights of what appears to be a very robust NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Franchise mode with MyNBA. Gamers who are fans of the MyGM, MyLeague, and MyLeague Online modes will have what sounds like a comprehensive way to customize as much as they want.
