NBA 2K and United Masters have kicked off their second annual international talent search. The initiative, known as 2K Beats: The Search, will help bring newer, relatively unknown artists onto the NBA 2K21 next-gen soundtrack. That means a number of up and coming talents will be featured when gamers use 2K on either the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S or X consoles.
2K, United Masters comment on international artist search
Through the 2K and United Masters talent search last year, artists such as Quantrelle and Fourtee were among those brought into the in-game soundtrack. According to Steve Stoute, Founder and CEO of Translation and UnitedMasters, that helped them gain even more exposure in terms of their music careers.
“NBA 2K continues to move culture forward by providing a platform for new music discovery,” Stoute said.
“Last year, we discovered incredible talents like Quantrelle and Fourtee who used this competition to emerge on a global stage. We’re thrilled to bring this competition back for a second year. NBA 2K converges music and gaming better than any other platform in the world.”
The current-gen soundtrack features a range of musical artists. They include Rick Ross, The Weeknd, Stormzy, Jack Harlow, Roddy Ricch, The Strokes, and even cover star Damian Lillard. However, the international talent search will expand upon that by adding in lesser known artists as part of the NBA 2K21 next-gen soundtrack.
Alfie Brody, Vice President of Global Marketing for NBA 2K, commented on how important the soundtrack is for the game.
“Music has always been an integral part of NBA 2K, and each year we strive to expand our approach to the players’ in-game experience,” Brody said.
“This year we’re able to bring the soundtrack to completely new heights, and the return of the UnitedMasters competition allows us to discover top artists that embody the NBA 2K21 theme – Everything is Game.”
Details on how to submit music for NBA 2K21 next-gen soundtrack consideration
There will be two distinct phases for the talent search competition. The first phase goes from Sept. 9 through October 15. During this phase, artists are able to submit their track for in-game consideration. 2K and UnitedMasters will judge the submissions and select 10 winners, who will be announced in November.
A second phase of the competition will run from Oct. 16 through Nov. 30 with 10 more winners announced in December. So that gives 20 artists opportunities to get their songs in rotation with the NBA 2K21 next-gen soundtrack.
Artists can easily submit their music for consideration on the NBA 2K21 next-gen soundtrack using the UnitedMasters mobile app. The app is currently available at the Apple App Store for iOS devices or through Google Play Store for Android devices.
