NBA 2K21 Next-Gen: The City Won’t Include WNBA MyPlayers

Over the past several weeks, we’ve learned quite a bit about NBA 2K21 Next-Gen Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. That includes the big news about WNBA Franchise and MyPlayer creation features exclusive to the next-gen edition. Just days ago, we saw the trailer and details for NBA 2K21 The City, but it only featured male MyPlayers.

NBA 2K21 Next-Gen The City Experience Will Not Allow for WNBA MyPlayers

According to COGConnected, 2K21 executive producer at Visual Concepts, Erick Boenisch recently talked to PowerUp Gaming about the next-gen features. When asked about which modes the WNBA MyPlayers will be part of, he mentioned they’re separate from the male-created MyPlayers in terms of where they can play.

“It’s separate. The W has its own online component to it, where you go online and play against other WNBA created MyPlayers,” Boenisch told Power Up Gaming.

2K unveiled a trailer for the WNBA MyPlayer features in NBA 2K21 Next-Gen, narrated by Candace Parker. It allows gamers to bring their MyPlayer through a Career Mode, or play in The W in 3-vs-3 games against other MyPlayers.

The official trailer for The City arrived just last week (below), showing what to expect for the expanded online community. That includes the return of 2K Affiliations, along with a number of other great features on the map. That experience should only continue to get better with the next-gen consoles as new editions of 2K21 arrive.

The absence of female MyPlayers is certainly a glaring mistake, but probably one that will be corrected going forward. It seems all MyPlayers should be able to experience The City, Quite possibly that may not happen until NBA 2K22.

That said, it’s taken a while for the WNBA to be part of the game, and for WNBA MyPlayers with customization to be available. The next-gen edition will also have WNBA Franchise mode, giving even more importance to the league in the game than ever before.

NBA 2K21 Next-Gen launches on November 10 for Xbox Series X/S and November 12 for PS5.
