With video game fans anxiously awaiting the next-generation consoles, an NBA 2K21 player ratings update is on the way. The new ratings shown on Thursday feature some of the game’s biggest players, including recent NBA Finals MVP, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers. A few cover stars are also amongst the group including Next-Gen Edition’s Zion Williamson.
NBA 2K21 player ratings include LeBron, Lillard, and Zion
NBA 2K is headed for the next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles by mid-November. At that time, 2K plans to update NBA 2K21 player ratings, including the players they’ve shown on social media.
LeBron James will rightfully lead the way with a 98 overall in the update, as he’s coming off another championship win. In some fans’ minds, he was robbed of the regular season MVP too. He’s still King and has the No. 1 rating heading to next-gen launch.
Speaking of that, the NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo comes in with a 97 overall rating. He and the Milwaukee Bucks didn’t quite get as far into the NBA playoffs as expected. Still hard to argue with his overall skill and talent. The Houston Rockets’ James Harden is third in terms of the ratings we see, with a 98 OVR.
Several players check in with a 95 overall rating including cover star Damian Lillard (Blazers). He’s joined by two stars who were out the entire season, Kevin Durant (Nets) and Klay Thompson (Warriors).
The debates begin over what fans are seeing as far as Damian Lillard goes. Let’s be real, he balled out in the regular season and bubble, while the other two 95 OVR stars watched from home. Shouldn’t the current-gen cover star get more respect?
The same might be said for the Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker, who gets an 88 OVR heading into the next-gen launch. He was another player who was impressive as he tried to will the Suns into the playoffs, and nearly did.
2K is revealing other player ratings on their official Twitter page. The Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young is an 88 OVR, while Jamal Murray is an 87 OVR. They also revealed the Celtics trio of Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum, among others.
Next-generation game details
We also saw Zion Williamson’s updated rating. The New Orleans Pelicans’ No. 1 pick is an 86 overall after his rookie season concluded. He’ll be looking to improve overall going into 2021 and beyond. He also graces the cover of the Next-Gen Edition of 2K21.
That version of the game is set to arrive when the Xbox Series X(S) and PlayStation 5 do. The new Xbox arrives on November 10, while the new PS5 comes out on November 12. The consoles are tough to secure now, as pre-orders moved fast.
Gamers can opt to purchase NBA 2K21 Next-Gen edition at a price of $69.99. However, those who purchased the Mamba Forever Edition on PS4 or Xbox One, get a free copy for the compatible upgrade console they purchase (PS4 to PS5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S).
