Just around the corner will be the NBA 2K22 release date. While fans of the basketball sim title have seen a few teasers, the cover stars, and a trailer, there’s still more to come. Brand new details have arrived about what the NBA 2K22 features will include, with several updates coming for gameplay, MyTeam, City, Neighborhood, and more.
NBA 2K22 features: Gameplay improvements
Based on the details from 2K, the NBA 2K22 features will include some key improvements in the gameplay. Not all of the information on these improvements is available yet, but they did reveal a bit about offensive and defensive gameplay.
Offensive players will experience more “control over how they score,” while defensive players will get more control over countering moves and shots. There will be new signature moves and combs, along with precision jump shots. 2K basically says having a high basketball IQ and stick skills will play even more into how offensive players get things done.
On the defensive side, they have revealed a “completely revamped shot contest and blocking system.” That is just part of the “new defensive tools” available in 2K22, though. However, it should make players who excel at defense even happier to know they’ll get more control on contesting moves or shots.
MyTeam Draft set to return in 2K22
MyTeam is the popular mode where gamers can choose to build the team they want consisting of the best players or player items available. Packs and reward cards are released to allow for upgrading rosters. MyTeam features offline and online competitions to boost earnings and rewards. It makes its return yet again and allows gamers to grind or pay-to-play.
In NBA 2K18 there was a draft feature, and it will make an updated return for NBA 2K22. In 2K18, the MyTeam Draft was a Pack And Playoffs mode. It basically had gamers select a head coach card to choose their system for play. From there, gamers opened packs to choose five players, one for each position, to play a full game.
2K22’s MyTeam Draft will have gamers building a complete lineup from a “constantly-updated pool of players.” From there, the drafted lineup can compete in online events to earn special rewards in MyTeam.
MyTeam will also feature cross-gen progress and collection. With this, gamers who build their MyTeam on PS4 or Xbox One and then get a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S console won’t have to worry about restarting their team.
Additionally, VC wallet, MyTEAM Point, and MyTEAM Token balances will be transferrable between the consoles of the same family, PlayStation or Xbox.
All-New City & Neighborhood Experiences include 2K Cruise
The City and Neighborhood tend to be popular when it comes to NBA 2K. With the recent next-gen consoles, gamers were introduced to an upgraded experience of The City on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S. It even brought back Affiliations and also Mayors to preside over them.
NBA 2K22 features an all-new version of the City for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The playground basketball experience includes non-playable characters (NPCs) and MyPLAYERs from around the world. In 2K22, there’s an all-new Quest system that will allow gamers to level up and earn rewards with their MyPLAYERS through various content. New, quicker, matchmaking options will also be available.
For those gamers still using PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or PC, there’s also a very unique new Neighborhood. This is a Neighborhood built on the decks of a sailing cruise ship. The ship will be sailing around while gamers can compete on board.
The ship will also dock at various spots throughout the season, and gamers can head to an “Excursion counter” to participate in shoreside events. So it will take the Neighborhood from the beach onto the high seas.
